@ianrich15813274 I lived and worked in the US for a short time and I became aware that a similar language masked some big differences.

I think most Brits had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Americans. We admired their ambition, their music & film, their openess. We were less keen on their boasting, their global ignorance, their guns, their sense of superiority. Under Trump, most of that love has now gone.

Reform isn't just a party - it's a business empire with unprecedented financial links to crypto and media. To many, this is fine: a new party with a new power base. To others, it's illiberal democracy in the making. At very least, we need the debate:- thetimes.com/comment/column…

Evening from Lichfield, where Beyond the Wall is getting another outing before it's time to Weimar. I'm told they have the only medieval cathedral with 3 spires here and - at least to my German ears - everyone sounds like Ozzy Osbourne. Going places is a great perk of my job 😊

@alexstubb I first went to Finland aged 19 in 1966 and I have always enjoyed my return visits.

Finland is the Happiest country in the World for the 9th year running. We also climbed up the world brand index from 7th to 5th. I am often asked why we do well in these rankings. I do not think there is a magic potion, but it helps to have a society which strives towards freedom, equality and justice. The basis of it all is a welfare society, a robust education system, a sense of security and a close attachment to nature. There is no such thing as a perfectly happy society, but providing some building blocks that give us a chance to live a meaningful life, to help others, will nudge us in the right direction during the journey of life.
