"AIMCo invests for a work force that includes Alberta police officers, nurses and university professors. The only debate in the province should be what’s in the best interest of those clients."

Giving Amery's track record on making true statements, seems like Nenshi has found a smoking gun. Amery is basically confirming Nenshi's comments, if you know how Amery and the UCP communicate. cbc.ca/news/canada/ca…

In the past 24 hours we’ve learned Trump is talking about firing like 3 different people in the DoJ and now the DNI. So either: * They are refusing to do something very illegal - which for them is a far out line. Or * There is a major intelligence scandal happening and Trump is going to throw people under the bus

Taking Alberta Forward, We Stand With #Canada!
The hypocrisy is stunning. "This is going to surprise some people." “The Premier’s office doesn’t belong to any ideology, political faction, or special interest group. It belongs to the public.” Yesterday, the Alberta government tabled Bill 25 — legislation meant to remove politics and ideology from our classrooms. On paper, it promotes neutrality. Yet Premier Danielle Smith is hosting The Premier’s Annual Christian Summit on May 4 in Red Deer — a direct dialogue between Christian leadership and Alberta’s government to “help shape the policies affecting our families, churches, and communities.” This feels like the pot calling the kettle black. If the government is actively partnering with one faith community to influence policy, how can we trust that Bill 25 will genuinely keep all ideologies out of public schools? Imagine if this were a summit with Muslim, Jewish, atheist, or progressive activist groups openly discussing how to shape education policy. The reaction would likely be very different. As Premier Danielle Smith herself has stated: “We need to phase out every government-run, union-controlled public school more interested in indoctrinating students than teaching them critical-thinking skills.” The real test for Bill 25 isn’t the wording — it’s whether it will be applied evenly, or whether certain worldviews will still get special access and influence behind closed doors. When the Premier’s office hosts exclusive summits with one religious group while pushing a bill to ban ideology from schools, it stops being about protecting neutral education. It starts looking like selective influence. With the Christian Summit just around the corner, Bill 25 is bound to fail in delivering true neutrality. The hypocrisy is simply too glaring. Public education must belong to all Albertans — not serve as a platform for any particular faith or ideology. Albertans deserve straight answers. What do you think? Can a government hosting faith-based policy summits credibly enforce ideological neutrality in our schools? #abpolitics

For all the talk by Trump of what the US spends on NATO some actual facts are helpful. Of $968bn US spend on military, only $33bn is spent in Europe, mostly on US bases which are not NATO bases. The actual US funding of NATO is approx $600m a year, about the same as Germany.

Trust me, I am no fan of Noem, Gabbard or Bondi, but I do find it notable that of the cabinet members Trump has fired or is reportedly considering firing, all three are women. How about Hegseth? Kennedy Jr. can't even find a CDC Director to match with his craziness. Patel is a laughing stock, and so on. Why aren't they being fired?

The President of the United States woke up this morning and posted a 150-word personal attack on Bruce Springsteen. Not on Iran. Not on the tariffs crashing global markets. Not on the recession warnings. Bruce Springsteen. There is a standard psychological tool called the Hare Psychopathy Checklist. It has 20 items scored on a scale from 0 to 40. The cutoff for a diagnosis of psychopathy is 30. The average person scores around 4. The average maximum security prisoner scores 22. A panel of eminent psychiatrists assessed Trump before his 2024 sentencing in New York. He scored 36 out of 40. The 25th Amendment exists precisely for this. Section 4 allows the Vice President and a majority of the Cabinet to declare the president unable to carry out his duties. It has never been used. In any normally functioning democracy, the bar would be far lower. Most leaders in that position resign themselves. Instead, this one is on Truth Social at 7:58 AM calling a rock legend a dried-up prune. America is fighting a war it cannot exit in Iran. Markets are in freefall. Allies are making alternative plans. And the man with the nuclear codes is writing concert reviews. Gandalv / @Microinteracti1

🚨🇺🇸 The President of the United States woke up this morning and posted a 150-word personal attack on Bruce Springsteen. Called him a dried up prune. Insulted his plastic surgeon. Told his supporters to boycott concerts that "suck." Somewhere a CENTCOM briefing is waiting. Somewhere four astronauts are floating toward the Moon. Somewhere oil traders are checking $108 on their screens. And Trump had the nerves.

Tom Nichols uses the right word. "Vice signaling." Performing contempt for the professional military as a brand. The record at the Pentagon fills in what that looks like in practice. Hegseth held monthly worship services during business hours. Started sending invites to defense contractors in February. The Pentagon IG found he risked U.S. servicemembers with his Signal disclosures. When investigators came to talk to him... he refused to sit for an interview and couldn't produce his own messages. The IG had to reconstruct them from Atlantic screenshots. Meanwhile, military commanders at 50 installations reportedly told service members the Iran war is "part of God's divine plan" and that Trump was anointed by Jesus. Over 200 complaints filed with the Military Religious Freedom Foundation. Members of Congress are now requesting an investigation. This month, Hegseth banned photographers from press briefings. Reason given: unflattering photos. The Atlantic's framing is precise. This is not incompetence that happens to look bad. It is a performance of a very specific kind of vice, directed at a very specific audience, while the institution it's performed in absorbs the cost.

I regret to have to remind you that Pete Hegseth is a disgrace and should not be the Secretary of Defense. theatlantic.com/newsletters/20…
