Happy Birthday to our 1st born, Julian. He would have been 11 today. Probably close to as tall as his mom & begging us for a cell phone. We’re forever grateful to the L&D nurse who encouraged us to name him & keep his memory/presence with us. Here’s one of my favorite pics. 🖤

12/ I cry every time I think about the kindness extended to me by that protective team. But especially the courageous way that intern permitted me to advocate for my own wellness. Yeah. I will remember that as one of the most powerful teachable moments I've ever had.

I felt VERY uncomfortable sending this email…but working on normalizing compensating Black women for their labor and acknowledging that I need to prioritize rest to do this important work (and therefore have to stop agreeing to give talks at 4:45 or 5am)
