Excellent call this morning with Steve Hassett, the National Director of Tournaments for @USSSA/@USSSABSBL. The largest provider for youth baseball events opened the door to collaboration with the #ArmCare Movement to improve systems in place that protect players from overuse. 💪🏽

Tonight, the newly formed team to address YOUTH #ARMCARE will be meeting. Tomorrow, our movement will have it's first phone call with @USSSA/@USSSABSBL. What do you think needs improvement at the youth level? #ArmCare 💪🏽

Connected with the man himself @jaegersports yesterday about the #ArmCare movement. It's got the potential to positively impact the health and safety of a TON of kids in this country, and I've just got nothing but gratitude for being able to have conversations like this.

Opening Day! Capital One Park in Tysons. The Battle of the Beltway High School Spring Break tourney will be there Sat, Mon, Tue, Wed.

First tournament of the spring and already seeing what we love about youth travel baseball. High Noons all over the park, Yetis full to the brim, Pocket Radars up at the ready and 9U teams with wristbands bigger than their waist wrapped around their belts! We have to do better!

Development isn’t a synonym for competing. It’s a discreet activity. But - because it costs nothing to say - you can look forward to a ton of teams advertising their development chops this coming tryout season. Ask them to show their work.

Opening Day for College Baseball was outstanding! Youth coaches- 1- take your team to a HS game 2- take your team to a College game 3- ask HS Coach to go to practice 4- take them to outside events We have our HS breakfast club at Bob Evan’s this morning and the kids love it!

Coaches education is the key to player development. This is how we grow our game. @ABCA1945 offers group packages. We are working w/ leagues across the country to get ABCA memberships for their coaches. We had well over 200 youth coaches join in VA this past fall. DM for info.

There are tons of parents, especially super sharp moms, who WANT to coach (and would make excellent coaches), but they haven't had the resources to feel confident in stepping into that role. I have this conversation often with parents.

Countless parents, especially mothers, want to step into the role of a coach, but with the lack of availability of resources to support them, we are missing out on a huge pool of humans who would make excellent coaches.

We have to recruit a more diverse coaching pool in youth baseball. Don’t ask who is interested from normal pool. Recruit them and provide them with the resources they need. @ABCA1945 @mobilitychick @devenmorgan @DCGirlsBaseball @MemphisBaseball @LittleLeague @BabeRuthLeague @MLB

7u-12u. We will make progress when house and travel baseball stop blaming and bad mouthing each other. It is a free market. Everyone can be better and coexist. We have to provide opportunities for all kids at all levels.

@ythbaseball LL = Little League CR = Cal Ripken P = Pony D = .... what?

I hope that we ALL wake up and see trends (7-12u) happening across the country. If we lose top players from house baseball, we also lose top coaches/volunteers in LL, CR, P, D. Then the 2nd tier players start to leave and so on…. Tourney only travel at 7-12u is not the answer.

@Direct2Baseball @PitchCountUSA Not sure where you live but that is not the case in most of our local leagues. Yes coaching education and player development can always improve.There is room for both house and travel at 7-12u. Kids can play both. The pool of coaches is only so deep. We have to increase that pool

@ythbaseball @PitchCountUSA Rec ball is pay your cheap fee, practice for 3-4 weeks, play games for 6-8 weeks with not practices, and move on. Zero real development and is a babysitting service to most parents. Until that changes, people will continue to leave. The entire model is broken all around.
