Wow, what a post. Accurate and brave. We have a pope who was raised in Chicago, which says a lot. And then spent much of his priesthood and socialist/communist South America. Then elevated to become a bishop by an outwardly socialist Jesuit pope in Pope Francis. Anybody who was surprised by his recent attacks on America and free enterprise has to have his head in the sand.

As a Catholic, I don't buy that @realDonaldTrump is dividing most Catholics at least in this country. Quite the opposite in fact. They agree with him because most American Cathloics hate that the church has become politically progressive, obsequoous to the left and at times openly Marxist. The Pope-who is American--is literally suggesting that we should turn a blind eye to the murderous mullahs, and the American taxpayer should subsidize the world's poor through open borders. As a result, the Pope and the Catholic Church is losing its relevance for most American Cathloics who believe it should stay out of politics and focus its attention to matters of faith and its own problems, lest we forget how it ignored child abuse for decades wsj.com/politics/trump…

No ghetto track back then. Just relatively recent Italian, Irish, Jewish and other immigrants who made the South Bronx home for a couple of generations. Once they 'made it' and moved all the way to the Nort Bronx, then the crime took over. In the '60s my parents wouldn't even let me play on the Cardinal Hayes baseball team because leaving practice at McCombs Damn Park in the dark was not a great idea.

I’ve really enjoyed your journey through Italy. I’ve been blessed by experiencing that on a half a dozen occasions. I never thought that would happen for me, having grown up the son of a Bronx patrolman back in the 1950s and 60s. Visiting the motherland, was not high on my list of hopeful life experiences, having been close to my immigrant grandparents who never got back to their own homeland.
