Yeah, I was 50/50 on Shea. They could for sure bring him back. I was looking at everyone already under contract to fill out the roster. Interesting idea on Silovs. I believe Murashov should be getting the bulk of the work next year, so this does make sense. I think Slinner also wants to be the guy too. Maybe better to sign a veteran backup to be a true backup

@3RiversSportNet McGroaty needs to improve his skating to be on Sid’s line. I think Silovs gets traded because he wants to be the guy. I think Skinner is back to share the net. They’ll resign Shea. Player wants to return and the money won’t be an issue

Seeing a lot of posts about what the Penguins lineup will look like in the fall, so I put my team together. Only stipulation to my list is that the players have to already be in the organization. Obviously there will be free agent signings and likely a couple of trades. I do believe either Rust or Rakell will be traded, preferably getting someone to bump Novak and Brazeau to the press box. Only in Pittsburgh will the media and a large portion of the fanbase say the Penguins shouldn’t bring back a guy who scored 19 goals 42 assists in 56 games at 39 years old. Tough luck for them though, Geno isn’t going anywhere.

I don't think the contract value is the issue, we have plenty of cap room even if it's $6.1 million, which I don't think it would be. I think it's more of a shifting the team towards younger players to see if all these guys you've been acquiring can actually do something with consistent NHL playing time. I'd love if all of these guys could play until they're 50, but the odds of Malkin having another season like this are miniscule.

Not interested in replacing his points Interested in seeing what the young players can do and if we have any true potential coming, which was the original plan for this year before the season started. Lets say Malkin is resigned, which is 50-50 imo, and then he has another point-per-season year, or very close. Are you bringing him back again?

Malkin will be 40 years old when the season starts in the fall. He missed 26 games last year. Since the modern era, only 1 player 40+ yrs old had a point-per-game season, that was Teemu Selanne 15 years ago. The Penguins season was magical, no doubt, but the odds of things going the same way again are minuscule, especially considering that many of the players that made it possible will no longer be on the team.

@3RiversSportNet @troybeck who is replacing his point production? nobody has been able to answer this--because there is nobody available, especially at his salary (which is a bargain). Mantha will make ~1.5x Malkin's cap hit as a UFA for significantly less value.
