Fire breaks out at Molo seminary dormitory days after deadly Gilgil school tragedy A fire broke out at St Joseph's Seminary School in Molo, Nakuru County, on Saturday night, causing significant damage to one of the school's dormitories. The incident happened just three days after a tragic dormitory fire at Utumishi Girls' High School in Gilgil claimed the lives of 16 students, raising fresh concerns about safety in learning institutions across the county. According to reports, the fire started at around 10pm as students were preparing to go to bed. School authorities quickly evacuated all students from the affected dormitory, ensuring that no injuries or fatalities were reported. Videos circulating online showed large flames engulfing the building as students, teachers, and members of staff watched from a safe distance. The full extent of the damage has not yet been established. However, fears remain that property worth millions of shillings may have been destroyed in the blaze. Many students are also believed to have lost personal belongings, as very little was reportedly salvaged from the burning structure. Emergency response teams from the Nakuru County Government were dispatched to the school shortly after the fire was reported. Their efforts helped contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other buildings within the institution. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire, and investigations are expected to begin to establish what led to the incident. The latest fire comes only days after the devastating tragedy at Utumishi Girls' Academy in Gilgil. The fire there broke out in the early hours of Thursday, May 28, while students were asleep. The incident resulted in the deaths of 16 students and left many families and members of the public in shock. Investigations into the Gilgil tragedy are ongoing. Reports indicated that eight students were arrested after CCTV footage allegedly showed them moving mattresses before a fire was started. An autopsy later confirmed that ten of the victims were positively identified, while six others were burnt beyond recognition. The Molo incident adds to a growing number of school fires reported in recent weeks. Schools such as Miranda Boys', Nguumo Boys', and Magereza Academy have also experienced similar incidents, prompting renewed calls for stronger safety measures and greater vigilance in schools across the country.
