✨ Member Success Story Spotlight: InspiriTec
We asked our member organizations to help us recognize the incredible staff who make this field exceptional. Today, we're proud to share one of those stories from Inspiritec. It is a reminder of why this work matters and who is doing it, with passion, skill, and heart:
Elsie Rosa
Customer Service Representative
New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs (DCA) Contact Center
I was born in 1955 with polio. My parents, who were from Puerto Rico, told me if I can’t do something one way, I can do it another way. After growing up in the Bronx, I lived in Puerto Rico. I earned an Associate’s and a Bachelor’s degree, and I always kept busy with odd jobs and volunteering. I also developed post-polio syndrome, which is like getting polio again but slower, and went from crutches to a wheelchair. As I aged, I developed diabetes and hypertension. After over 30 years in Puerto Rico, I moved to New Jersey, seeking an employer that would really give me a career and take care of me. InspiriTec has been that employer for me since 2010! I was brought here to start up the Board of Nursing team on our DCA contract. InspiriTec liked my background; I had done receptionist and translator work, so I knew how to talk to people of different backgrounds on the phone, in English and Spanish. I was less familiar with computers, but I’ve learned a lot here! We help nursing professionals in New Jersey through the process of applying for their professional licenses. I like my job, because I get to help people, and I get to be the customer service professional they deserve. I am empathetic and sympathetic, I keep callers informed, I perceive their feelings over the phone, and I just don’t give up on them. As the senior member of the team, I’ve been engrained in – and benefitted from – the culture at InspiriTec. We have good people here who celebrate each other and have each other’s backs, which makes for a successful work environment. InspiriTec has intervened for me in personal matters, such as helping me get my apartment. People with disabilities can be independent, like me. They come to work because they feel they can do the job, and often prove they’re the best people for the job. InspiriTec recognizes people with disabilities just need some support to thrive, and I believe other organizations should look to InspiriTec as a model!
