Spec-driven development is the missing bridge between “I can demo an agent” and “I can ship one that runs unattended.” Treat an agent like a product with contracts; define tools, state transitions, failure modes, and budgets (latency, gas, rate limits) before you write prompts.
Build a validation loop around the spec; simulators, unit tests for tool calls, policy checks, and observability that catches drift in production.
Prompting is still useful; it just becomes an implementation detail, not the architecture.
