More than 65 ATU Locals took part in a Safety Committee training to assist our Locals with strategies and tactics that have been successful in setting up safety committees for ATU Locals in the US and Canada.
“This is an important training on these critical Safety Committees that ensure critical protections for our members and riders in both the U.S. and Canada,” said International President John Costa who was joined by International Executive Vice President Yvette Trujillo and International Secretary-Treasurer Ken Kirk. “We need to hold our transit agencies accountable to create these safety committees. Thank you for your leadership and taking the time to take part in this invaluable training to ensure our members’ safety on the job.”
Conducted by ATU Health and Safety Director Andrew Falotico, Training and Education Administrator Russell Bateman, and Associate General Counsel Laura Karr, the training
covered campaigns and tactics that safety committees can use. Also discussed were legislative differences regarding safety committee requirements, work refusals, whistleblower protections, and safety reporting.
