Does focusing on only new figures ignore the true collectors' culture?
I don't know about that, but it can perhaps make you lose some appreciation for older figures.

The oldest item currently sitting in my @BigBadToyStore Pile of Loot is in single-digit days of aging out. I need this Storm Arena #StreetFighter Sagat to land so I can ship. I got the heads up email that he will be in soon, but it might be a photo finish at this point.
Is staging overly dramatic battle scenes cliché or a necessary staple.
I'm not sure it's either. For instance, I like setting up "overly dramatic" battle scenes because it tests a whole lotta skills yours truly thinks are important for figure photography and edits.
