We’re designing and testing agents for mathematical discovery. Some lessons learned: 1️⃣ Don’t aim for “Riemann Hypothesis–level” problems yet — the mathematical language and tools to solve them probably don’t exist yet. 2️⃣ Learn to break big problems into small ones. Even if they look unrelated, follow your intuition — the hidden links between math branches are often surprising. 3️⃣ Don’t chase proofs directly. Lean is for proving, not for discovering. Finding a good problem is more valuable than solving one. 4️⃣ A good conjecture should be falsifiable. Use code to test its possible truth, not to prove it. Experimentation > formalism.

😛dscovered a boundary automaton for the Rauzy fractal that appears to differ from the classical boundary structure. Its most striking feature is that the boundary can grow progressively, almost like a streamed fractal unfolding in real time. 2.7M points in demo.

AI technology is on the rise. So are its applications in industry, science, and society at large. At leidendeclaration.ai we, a group of 16 scientists, including mathematicians, computer scientists, philosophers, and historians, have drafted a declaration calling for action on the challenges posed by the use of artificial intelligence in mathematical research. Over several months, we carefully weighed the promises and risks of introducing AI into research workflows and beyond. The declaration has already been endorsed by international communities, most prominently by the International Mathematical Union, as well as by a large group of mathematicians and other scientists. We invite our colleagues to sign the declaration and support its recommendations on how AI should be adopted in our workflows, and how we should establish and maintain relationships with AI labs and industry. One of its central points is the need to preserve balance, rigor, and sound judgment while acknowledging the extraordinary pace of development in the AI community. We hope this declaration, a deeply human act, will serve as a guiding document for those who recognize the human imperative and the need for governance in scientific discovery, especially mathematical discovery.

This is my lowest payout yet. And for the first time since I joined the revenue programme, I won’t be getting paid at all - I’ve slipped under the threshold. I knew this stretch could be rough, but this is properly grim. Halfway through, I moved from my usual news curation to more original posts and commentary. The results look good post by post, but there are simply fewer of them. Still, when the algo keeps shifting every few weeks, it’s hard to tell what’s actually working - and what’s not. How did you do in the last pay period?
