I normally would think this is a cheap, and stupid, horror movie, if hippos were not actually one of the most evil creatures to walk this earth.

@JovanGThinks @writriverdale I’m not gonna lie, pursuing beautiful literature has made me desire a deeper faith than most philosophy does. Philosophy is vital, don’t get me wrong, but I want beauty

If you guys are getting burnt out of a million Christian apologists making the same 5 points, there's a whole scene of Christian artists and poets making (genuinely) cozy videos on Tolkien, poetry, self-made indie art, George MacDonald (an inspiration for C.S. Lewis), and more!

This is my tome. I want my writing and my note taking to be worthy of such a book. I want to learn how to doodle like the below image so that it’s a proper manuscript

I need to get better at doodling. I have a large tome that I use for taking notes, but right now it’s just for walls of text.

According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 1857), for a Sin to be Mortal (also called grave or deadly sin, which destroys sanctifying grace in the soul and can lead to eternal separation from God if unrepented), three conditions must all be present together:
1. Grave matter — The act must involve something objectively serious, typically a grave violation of God’s law as summarized in the Ten Commandments (e.g., murder, adultery, blasphemy, serious theft, skipping Sunday Mass deliberately, or other intrinsically evil acts that gravely harm one’s relationship with God, neighbor, or self). Not every wrongdoing qualifies—minor faults do not meet this threshold.
2. Full knowledge — The person must have sufficient awareness and understanding that the act is seriously sinful and contrary to God’s law. This means they know (or should reasonably know) the moral gravity of what they are doing. Feigned or willful ignorance does not excuse it; in fact, it can make the sin worse.
3. Deliberate consent (or full/deliberate consent of the will) — The person must freely and intentionally choose to commit the act, with their will fully engaged. There must be no significant external coercion, overwhelming passion, addiction, or other factors that substantially impair freedom of choice. It has to be a personal, deliberate decision ✝️
All three elements must align for the sin to be mortal. If even one is missing (for example, the matter is grave but the person lacks full knowledge or gives only partial consent), it is generally considered a venial sin—still harmful and something to avoid, as it weakens charity and disposes one toward mortal sin, but it does not cut off the life of grace in the same way.
This teaching emphasizes both God’s justice (sin has real consequences) and His mercy (through the Sacrament of Reconciliation/Confession, mortal sin can be forgiven and grace restored). It’s meant to guide conscience examination rather than create scrupulosity—many people benefit from speaking with a priest for clarity in specific cases.
