@kmkoelsch Wow! Thank you so much! I am so fortunate to have the FCPS community as colleagues & friends over the years. Pushing me to be a better educator AND a better human. Thank you. And, @kmkoelsch you live down the street. 😄 you’re still stuck with me!

@kmkoelsch The portfolios and talking about GROWTH brought me back to my FCPS #fcpsPOGPOL days. I learned from the best! Thank you @MLRoboskyFCPS @christiepday @AndreaHand2 #fcpsPOG
English

Did I mention how much I love these portfolios?! Getting ready for our student led conferences on Thurs. Ss were excited to share specific examples of their GROWTH and work that they were most proud of (& why) while they practiced with peers. @HuffmanHawksPYP #huffmanbychoice

#NoVaedchat! Thanks for sharing ideas! So appreciated the conversation and ideas. My youngest has been (mostly) patiently waiting to read me a story she wrote. Centering that relationship and saying good night!
English

A6 - I love the idea (Q5 resource) of reflecting on who am I talking to/not talking? What do I know about my students? And then being intentional in connecting with students based on this reflection. Process-based, not just a one time action. #NoVAedchat
English

@oldbay84 The first part of your response asks is the S hard to reach or is it the things that you are doing as a T. The perspective this brings about distance - I wasn't clear what causes the distance you name.
English

A2. I ask myself if the s is hard to reach or is it really me the t and the space that I have landscaped for learning that is hard to reach? When I ask myself this, it takes me to a different perspective of the ss and my responsibility in the distance of them #NoVAedchat
English

@BetaBorsos I've seen this idea! I feel like like this is 'data analysis' extrapolated! Have you uncovered anything that surprised you? #NoVAEdChat
English

A3 If we ask kids what is working/helping their learning, we can do more of that. And, if we ask what is not working, we can do less of that. If we ask kids about their lives, we can know them better and tailor experiences to their interests/strengths/needs. #NoVAedchat
English

@B_A_Valentine If relationships are respectful, they can't be forced. I appreciate you naming that people aren't problems to solve. We all have 'things' - to include strengths. No one should be identified by their weaknesses as the dominating narrative. #NoVAechat

A2b/ A lot of times, they tell me. Particularly heart-rending is when I hear anything to the effect of "thanks for just being there/listening/not rushing to 'get' me, etc.

A2a/ Esp as an AP, trying to flatten the hierarchy/power imbalance as much as possible in a given situation. Recognizing where systems create circumstances that make students hard to reach. And talking with Ss as people, not as projects or problems to solve. #novaedchat

Q2 How have you successfully cultivated relationships with hard-to-reach students? How might you know when relationship-building is successful? #NoVAedchat
Washington, DC 🇺🇸 English

@TechyMargaret I love how you are proactively asking for feedback that guides next steps. Student to teacher feed back! #NoVAEdChat
English

A1 im working with a group of students on a passion project now. My goal is to support them and help them stay on the path to achieve their goals! They are connecting and trying new things - I want them to feel comfy taking risks and learning #NovaEdChat

English

@B_A_Valentine Yesss to this! And students as generators and creators that can positively impact their community (today...not just later on)! #NoVAEdChat
English

A1/ My goals for Ss center on the extent to which they're seen, heard, valued for who they are and the experiences that inform the way they see the world. R'ships help in this to the extent that they're not about generating compliance, but community. #NoVAedchat

Q1 Learning happens within us, not to us (Carol Ann Tomlinson @cat3y). What are your goals for students? How do relationships support reaching these goals? #NoVAedchat
Washington, DC 🇺🇸 English

@cquincyteach I once read a definition of success that said (something like) - success is having the strategies to set your own goal(s) & make progress to achieve them. I love how you have captured how the 'feeling' of success can't be defined by others. It's relative & personal! #NoVAEdChat
English

A1: I want my Ss to be able to define what success looks like for them & work to achieve that success. I hope my relationships w/ Ss make them comfortable to share their idea of success w/ me & trust me to help them reach it even when (especially when) it’s a struggle #novaedchat
English

A2: Be curious about my students & embed opportunities for Ss to get to know one another, me, and share about themselves in a safe environment. Also, multiple ways to communicate; not everyone is comfortable F2F. When we know one another better = success. #NoVAedchat
English

@AbbeyFMiller If learning really is moving towards something that we can't already do on our own (ie, zone of proximal development) --> learning is vulnerable! So resonate with everything you and Dr. Comer! #NoVAEdChat
English

A1 Dr. Comer says "No significant learning occurs without a significant relationship." A hope that I have for each student is that they have a significant teacher in their lives to facilitate powerful learning experiences #NoVAedchat
