It involves a big change in web construction to be able to spin underwater, trapping air under silk sheets to breathe with. Semi-aquatic spiders are common but this extreme adaptation is very unique.

Do you suppose it is a comparatively novel way of life for a spider in evolutionary terms? Or perhaps there was once more diversity in aquatic spiders?
