Mathieu Cote has essentially confirmed this to be true! DBD 2 (DBD Next) was a rebuild of the game from the ground up and had a designated separate team as of July 2024. It seems like instead of DBD 2 (new game), they’re just rebuilding the normal DBD itself. This means there’s no loss of licenses, content, or progression while still strengthening and rebuilding the game from scratch.
