Imagine the Ontario Northlander getting the same GO Expansion treatment between Toronto and North Bay. It could mean two-way 2-hourly service, with new development around the stations. Over time, turn the line into a dedicated high-average-speed corridor. This would connect communities better, cut highway traffic on the 400, and support tourism and growth in Muskoka and the Near North. Building on the current Northlander revival planned for 2026. What do you think?

This morning, I was in North Bay to welcome back the Northlander 14 years after it was cancelled by the previous Liberal government. The first of three Northlander trainsets is now undergoing rigorous testing along the route between Timmins and Toronto, ahead of a return to service later this year. Find out more about how we’re connecting northern communities: news.ontario.ca/en/release/100…

@S95407Scot If I'm full of shit, then you're every sewer in the world combined. Explain how we Aussies avoid the slow tram bullshit that plagues Toronto? How we avoid their unreliable switches. Their low frequency slow arse diesel commuter trains? Trams slower than jogging?

New: Metrolinx's plan to run more frequent, shorter GO trains is now “unlikely to materialize” after it fired the European partners who planned to make it happen, according to a draft of the agency's internal fleet strategy. #onpoli thetrillium.ca/news/municipal…

@admbeaumont Canada is gonna be so stacked by the next olympics it’s not funny This was a perfect storm timing for the US, their best period of good talent all at once. Canada’s young bright stars include celeb, bedard, schaeffer, mckenna, dupont. the us has no young grade a guys like that.

Man, I’ve had a lot of mixed feelings about Dangle over the years, but you gotta fucking respect this. Speaking the truth when so many reporters are bending over with excuses, flimsy nuance, and pleasantries. Stand your fucking ground.

The goal is everywhere-to-everywhere transit: a network, not isolated lines, so it’s possible to get from anywhere to anywhere with a single transfer. Progress has been painfully slow, but the truth is we are finally back to building the right system. The opening of the Crosstown reflects a generational shift away from politically driven, disconnected projects (the bizarre connection to Vaughan, the Sheppard 'stump') and toward transit planning grounded in careful analysis, network logic, and the creation of a true everywhere-to-everywhere network.* Despite a deeply bungled provincial delivery (yes to a Public Inquiry), this new line advances the council-approved @CityPlanTO Transit Network Plan. The Ontario Line, our second key priority and now under construction, is a core element of that plan, with Waterfront East LRT and Eglinton East LRT following as the necessary next steps in building out the network. There’s a long way to go, but we are finally moving in the right direction. * There are caveats of course but this is largely true.

🚨 TRADE RUMOR BREAKDOWN - Travis Hamonic ➡️ Colorado Avalanche? The Cost: Cale Makar. Here is why Chris McFarland might actually pull the trigger on this: Hamonic is cost-controlled ($1M). Colorado needs depth NOW. Makar is a high price, but quality costs quality.

🚨 TRADE RUMOR BREAKDOWN - Alexis Lafrenière ➡️ Detroit Red Wings? The Cost: Marco Kasper + 2026 1st Round Pick. Here is why Steve Yzerman might actually pull the trigger on this: Lafrenière is cost-controlled ($7.45M) until the 2030s. Detroit needs a Top-6 Winger NOW. @MarkJCarney Talk about making a move to further alienate the west, the focus of high speed rail has to be about bringing the whole country together.

@vjamesricci @MarkJCarney politics unfortunately. quebec is where elections are won, and if they build Windsor to Toronto that gives all of PQ to the bloc. that and the federal government has a mandate to build intraprovincal travel, so this is kind of required.

@CanadianPolling I don’t think it’s being built fast enough but HSR takes time to plan and build. Because Canada kind of sucks it’ll come late and over budget, but EAs, land acquisition and the like are not easy. Every expropriation will see people fighting tooth and nail. It’s hard.

The Liberals just announced Phase 1 of high-speed rail. Not Toronto to Montreal the corridor that actually matters. They chose Ottawa to Montreal instead. How convenient. Build it where politicians live, not where Canadians commute.

Luckily, Chow said today that she is bringing forward a motion for removing speed caps, and increasing service frequency along with signal priority. I hope that this overrides the current target for the TTC, which seems to be *check notes* 14 MINUTES slower than the BUS.

Took @Metrolinx GO train 🚆 this morning to Toronto. It really is the best way to get here from Guelph. Jumped on at 6:58am, arrived at 8:15am. Not too shabby. No parking issues, no wasting gas. Got here faster than if I had driven for sure. It’s the way to go. Pun intended. 😉

In June 2015 several experts - including a UofT study - warned that demolishing the eastern link of the Gardiner would only further exacerbate congestion and cut off large portions of the east end from the downtown core and beyond. @shelleycarroll was one of the most vocal proponents of demolishing it. In the end, the decision was to retain the connection to the DVP but demolish the Lakeshore link. The sole vote against the demolition was Rob Ford. What do you think? Was this a good idea? 🤔
