At 6pm, Chard realised the north wall could not be held and pulled back to the yard and abandoned the two front rooms of the hospital. As the Zulus took the hospital, the roof caught fire and the defenders had to cut a hole in the wall to escape and evacuate patients through!

22 January 1879. The Zulus defeated British troops at the Battle of Isandlwana in South Africa in the Anglo-Zulu War. It was the 1st major battle of the conflict between the British Empire and the Zulu Kingdom. The battle was a response by the Zulus to the British Invasion.
