@niccihehn Yes! Anything that is a “clear liquid” that cuts the taste is great to have on hand.
English

@CancerInsider My nurse told me it’s ok to sip root beer or Dr Pepper after drinking prep to get the taste out of my mouth. It helped!

It’s #AYACancerAwarenessWeek!
What happens when you “age out” of the AYA space, but still have challenges, especially financially, and less support? We must evolve to include those in the middle who, hopefully, have a lot of life ahead.

@ejgallagher1 @JaniceDean USC does indeed check all three boxes.
English

@JaniceDean It pains me to say this as a Notre Dame fan, but the USC PT program in conjunction with Keck, that treated my wife @CancerInsider, is an excellent program.
English

@warriormegsie If it is any consolation. Asian Americans are having trouble getting seats at the table too.
English

@CancerInsider Thank you so much! It has been and continues to be challenging. I often question my purpose, especially in meetings and rooms where I’m the only Black person there as people talk about health equity. Smh.

10 years ago today: my quadrantectomy + reconstruction, removing the remaining cancer. My official #breastcancer cancerversary.
I didn’t plan to be an #advocate. I became one because I had to. Dx under 40. A Black woman. Symptoms ignored for 2+ years.
I refused to stay quiet.

@sshayslip @annamaria1word @ejgallagher1 Erbitux = Cetuximab. Sorry, but I have no knowledge about Weiireg. I don’t believe that it is a related drug given its differing side effects.
English

She may be referring to Erbitux. Although commonly told that the more acne response, the more effective. However, I don’t recall seeing any scientific evidence of that.
Definitely stay ahead of skin toxicities as much as you can. The acne is caused by bacteria and your doctor can prescribe a topical antibacterial or steroids to help combat it.
Vaseline is great for your lips and even your skin (because it’s skin toxicities so it could be extreme dryness). Skin absorbs moisture at different rates so consider using different types from a daily moisturizer to Vaseline overnight. It didn’t feel great to have that gunk all over my face all night on my silk pillowcase, but it sure helped all around!
Feel free to dm if you have questions.

@DaveEDanna You were always worth loving. You just needed a little help to see and she was the one to show you.
English

@mikejwhelan Michael, I am so sorry to hear this. May your warm memories with her carry you through this difficult time.

Did you know? Many people think clinical trials mean giving up real treatment. In cancer trials, every participant receives at least the current standard of care. #TrialTalk #ColorectalCancer

@hans_wurster37 @ExactSciences That is exactly my hope - to take away the fear of prep for someone. Prep is really the worst part of a colonoscopy and still it’s not too bad.
English

This is such an important reminder — thank you for using your voice to bring awareness to something that truly saves lives. 💙
Colorectal cancer is one of those conditions where early detection makes a huge difference, and yet so many people delay screening out of fear, discomfort, or simply not knowing their options. Highlighting choices like Cologuard and colonoscopy — and explaining that colonoscopy can actually remove polyps during the procedure — helps take away some of that uncertainty.
I especially appreciate you acknowledging the prep process. That’s often the part people dread most, so sharing practical tips from your experience can really encourage someone who’s on the fence. Sometimes it’s not the test itself that stops people — it’s the anticipation.
Conversations like this normalize screening and remind us that taking care of our health is an act of responsibility, not fear. Thank you for continuing to educate and empower others. If sharing your prep tips helps even one person follow through, it’s absolutely worth it.
English

March has come around again, and so here I am to remind you that it is #ColorectalCancer awareness month. If you are 45 or older PLEASE make sure that you get screened. There are many options like the #Cologuard test by @ExactSciences or a colonoscopy from your gastroenterologist. If you choose a colonoscopy (the gold standard because it can remove polyps during the procedure), you will need to undergo prep for the procedure. Over the years, I have collected many tips that can help ease the prep. Hope they help, and I would love to hear any new tips that you have to share!
Phuong Gallagher@CancerInsider
March is colorectal cancer awareness month, so let me give you a little help in getting screened. For those of you who may be a bit nervous for your first colonoscopy, prep is the worst part! I put this together for a friend a while back, and I hope it helps someone out there.1/n

This past year has redefined what it means to be my caregiver. @ejgallagher1 has gone over and beyond what anyone could ask for. He should have updated his LinkedIn Profile many times in the course of what he has been asked to do. He is my patient navigator, taking on all phone calls to handle incorrect billing, scheduling visits with my PT and OT, and ordering all supplies needed not only for my use, but also for my RN who has to change my port and draw labs weekly. Eddie is my care coordinator, spotting anything new and communicating with my doctors to ensure that any new issues (like my current bout with shingles) are spotted and taken care of early on, he communicates my pain levels and needs, and he reviews my labs weekly and ensures that all my doctors are on the same page. Eddie has also been my best on call nurse, he had to learn how to pack my wound and does it better than any wound nurse out there! He also handles every ask that I make from my bed, be it changing my foley, bringing me a soda, or setting up my TPN. This man does it all and should be celebrated every day, not just on #NationalCaregiversDay. Eddie, I can’t say how much I love you because there are not the words to say. But know that I love you less yesterday than i love you today. And I will love you more tomorrow than I love you today.
I also have to say thanks to my sister, Jenny, for all her help. Heimdall has fallen in love with her and is her shadow whenever she is here. Despite Heimdall getting in the way, Jenny visits frequently to give Eddie a few moments to himself, and she is so thoughtful. She helps me with things like trimming my nails, she cleans, and entertains Raegan and Heimdall. Thank you sis, for all your help. I love you!
