A super weekend at the English Winter Fair, great to catch up with folk and come home with some tickets. Delighted to win the Southdown class with a pair of 45kg Chaileybrook The Stag sired wethers, with these then going on to take the reserve native championship.

@herdyshepherd1 And the same would largely be true in sheep systems too I’d expect. Forage powered, outdoor lambing systems suited to local environment etc…will deliver in future. Get the maternal genetics right and the rest falls into place

@puncherton @APHAgovuk It’s unrealistic to think it’s spread can be stopped. We were lucky it didn’t spread further last autumn, but warmer temps will likely see it move quickly. Midges don’t respect boundaries or borders. This move should help trading, particularly in the autumn.

@RupertLowe10 Can we first get the terminology correct please? Halal refers to the saying of the prayer before slaughter. What I believe you are asking for a ban on is non-stun slaughter. The two are different things and mustn’t be confused. The halal market is vital for UK sheep farmers.

As a farmer, I have deep concerns about the impact of halal slaughter on animal welfare - it is unnecessarily cruel. I asked Govt to commission a study on the subject - the answer was due on Jan 16th. I have heard nothing. My opinion is that Halal slaughter should be banned.

Why trumpet the securing of private funds to upgrade water infrastructure which is already privatised? It should be privately funded, it’s private companies that have failed to invest in maintenance!

The last 2800m of fencing complete on the today 10k we have done. No hedge plants been bought to complete this project until we get the capital claim money and our annual mid teir money. Some saying it could be June. This isn’t a small issue, this is buisness breaking issues.
