Your team performance issue is a leadership issue. Look in the mirror first. Lead yourself first.

You never know what opportunities can turn into if you’re not willing to try something new and be uncomfortable. I was an assistant swim coach and I can’t even swim. Dive in! 😉😊

In addition to basketball has been so impactful in how I lead now. Pulling from all of those coaches and sports has only allowed me to be better. What I’m saying is if you’re at a small school and have opportunities to help out… dive in and be all in for the learning experience

I don’t post my thoughts on here as often as I used to but I want to say this in hopes it reaches someone who may benefit.. In my 3rd year as Head Coach I’m realizing more every day that the opportunities I had early on to also be an assistant softball, swim, and vball coach…

A goal says: “I want to be great.” A commitment says: “I’ll do what it takes, every single day.” One talks. One shows up.

If it was easy, everyone would do it

A major cheat code in life: Being a pleasure to deal with. Kind when others aren’t. Calm when things go sideways. Reliable under pressure. Intelligence alone is overrated. Be someone who lightens the load for folks around them. People value people who make their lives easier.

Another great year in the classroom for our program. Proud of all the work they put in on the court and in the classroom

As a coach, I want to know you as a person. Not just an athlete. I want to be able to talk to you about life. Not just softball. A lot of recruiting nowadays is about spotting the talent first. Which is understandable, and something I do first as well. But after that, I recruit the person. If I can’t have a conversation with you and can’t trust you OR your parents to represent our program well, I cant continue recruiting you. Thats honesty.

Example: Coach, I love the location of your college being close to the beach. Your school has the degree I plan to study which is nursing. I’d like to learn more about you & your program to see if I’d be a good fit. Here are some things I do on the court & in the classroom…

How do we fit your wants/needs for a school/program? What do you do to separate yourself from the rest? Continue to reach out & advocate for yourself, add reasons as to why you’re the best option. In turn, ask coaches to answer that same question if they’re recruiting you.

Recruits: When you say… “I would be a good fit for your program” Please elaborate. How do u stand out from the other 500 that “would be a good fit”? What do you know about our program/school that would make you think you’d be a good fit?

Expectation built the culture. 7 with a 4.0. 1 with a 3.92. The sport is the catalyst. The degree is the opportunity that leads to bigger moments and opportunities in life. So proud. Go Lakers Always.
