Billy Donovan shares the mindset that separates good teams from great ones. "When you miss a shot and it impacts you in a negative way and it takes you 2 or 3 plays to get over that - you're not wrapped up in really competing for the team." One mistake isn't the problem. Letting one mistake become five is. Choose to respond, not react. "There's a selflessness that takes place. The guy standing next to you has got to be so important to you. You have to have such respect for him." It's not about you - it's about the team and the people next to you. "I'm letting the team down 'cause I turned the ball over. I'm letting the team down because I missed a shot. I'm letting the team down 'cause I blew a defensive assignment...No - you're letting the team down when it parlays into 4 or 5 possessions after that." The mistake doesn't define you. Your response does. Accept it. Acknowledge it. Refocus. "You've got to pick yourself up off the mat because it's a game that's imperfect. There's gonna be mistakes that happen all throughout 48 minutes." That's the reality. Mistakes are inevitable. What matters is how quickly you reset for your team. How quickly can you bounce back?
