Remote work was supposed to save Pakistan's tech talent. It did. It saved them for someone else. Here is what nobody is saying out loud: As more Pakistani tech professionals opt for remote work with global companies paying in US dollars, local startups struggle to compete on salary. The best developers in Lahore are now employed by companies in London. The best designers in Karachi are on the payroll of startups in San Francisco. The best data scientists in Islamabad are building products for companies they will never visit. This is celebrated as a win. And in one sense it is dollars coming in, talent earning more, families living better. But here is the other side of that coin nobody wants to flip: Every Pakistani startup founder trying to build something locally is now competing for talent against Silicon Valley salaries. You cannot offer a senior developer Rs. 250,000 a month when his LinkedIn inbox has an offer for $5,000 a month from a company that doesn't care what time zone he's in. One founder put it plainly: "We invest in training young developers only to see them leave after a few months for better-paying offers. It is nearly impossible to scale teams or complete large contracts." Remote work didn't create a Pakistani tech ecosystem. It created a Pakistani talent pipeline for everyone else's ecosystem. The question nobody is asking: How do you build a local startup culture when your best people are working for someone else's startups? We don't have a clean answer. But We think we need to stop calling this a win without also naming what it costs. What do you think is remote work with global companies the best path for Pakistani developers right now, or is it quietly gutting the local ecosystem? #ConnectedPakistan #PakistanTech #StartupPakistan #TechEntrepreneur

Unpopular opinion: Pakistan doesn't have a talent problem. It has a pricing problem.

It's the belief that they're allowed to charge it. Stop competing with the cheapest person on Upwork. Start competing with the best person in the world.

The developers charging $80/hour from Pakistan? They exist. We've met them. The only difference between them and everyone else isn't skill.

We celebrate when someone lands a $500 project. We should be asking why it wasn't $5,000. The clients who pay $8/hour are not your clients. They are someone else's problem.

Every week we see brilliant developers, designers, and marketers from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad doing work that would bill at $150/hour in the US. Charging $50.

9 submarine cables. All landing in Karachi. One cut and Pakistan's $3.8B IT export industry holds its breath. This isn't a risk. It's a ticking clock. Islamabad gets 5G at its airport. Good. But we're celebrating the paint job while the foundation has a crack. #PakistanTech
