An excellent summary of the grassroots rebellion that took place in the SNP in 2020 & how it was ruthlessly crushed by the very people who are now claiming to have no idea that anything was wrong with SNP finances. In a healthy democracy their behaviour should have consequences.

💬 @JohnSwinney today admitted there weren't "adequate controls" to prevent Murrell's thieving. "The systems in place shouldn't have been able to be abused but they were." I reminded him last week he said the systems did not fail. Response: "DON'T PUT WORDS IN MY MOUTH!"

🧵From Murrell narrative it’s clear that the systems put in place by @theSNP for financial management were wholly inadequate. Leadership, party office bearers, most of NEC, HQ staff including party’s in house solicitor at best asleep at the wheel at worst grossly negligent. 1/2

Don’t be fooled. Nicola Sturgeon (wife) is not being held responsible for her husband’s crimes. As leader of the party she is being called to account for her deliberate frustration of the legitimate scrutiny which might have revealed those crimes. The distinction is 💯 clear.

Five years to the day since I resigned from the SNP NEC because of the deliberate frustration of the scrutiny of governance & financial management I had been elected by members to deliver. Those asking questions were treated appallingly. We need to know why.

Nicola Sturgeon via her lawyers: ➡️ Ms Sturgeon was “not aware of [the] existence” of the £124,550 motorhome vehicle until it “featured in the police investigation” in early 2023. Ryan-Thomas Quinn (a student) saw this statement and responded with the following: ➡️He reported seeing Sturgeon in Asda in autumn 2022, just a six-minute drive from her mother-in-law’s property. Quinn told the press that when he saw Sturgeon’s statement on Monday claiming she did not know about the vehicle before 2023, he “burst out laughing” because he thought her claim was “ridiculous”. “I just find it unbelievable that clearly she was at her mother-in-law’s house, and she didn’t think to ask her the question ‘where did the campervan on the driveway come from?’,” 👉Note: Sturgeon’s lawyers subsequently have not denied that the Dunfermline visit Quinn said he had witnessed had taken place.👈
