And now the Sunday Times reporting he was briefed on previous links but still appointed …if true, questions over PMs judgement will persist and it becomes less likely he’ll lead Labour in next election. PM / Labour need to get a grip quickly.

London. A meaningful and warm meeting with Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer. During our talks, we discussed the challenges facing Ukraine and all of Europe, coordination with partners, concrete steps to strengthen Ukraine’s position, and ending the war with a just peace, along with robust security guarantees. A principled statement of support from the Prime Minister and an important decision: today, in our presence, Ukraine and the United Kingdom signed a Loan Agreement. This loan will enhance Ukraine’s defense capabilities and will be repaid using revenues from frozen Russian assets. The funds will be directed toward weapons production in Ukraine. This is true justice – the one who started the war must be the one to pay. I thank the people and government of the United Kingdom for their tremendous support from the very beginning of this war. We are happy to have such strategic partners and to share the same vision of what a secure future should look like for all. 🇺🇦🇬🇧

Not long after I posted this Trump went bonkers on Zelensky. It is very worrying. Every claim he makes — from America giving a lot more than Europe to Ukraine, Zelensky support’s being down to 4% and Zelensky being a dictator because he’s not called elections (neither did Churchill when we fought for our freedom) — is demonstrably untrue. More worrying than that every one is a Kremlin talking point/piece of Putin propaganda. Why does Trump slag off Zelensky yet never have a harsh word to say about Putin. Bizarre and distressing.

The brutal stalemate on the Ukraine/Russian front line makes the case for peace talks to explore what can be agreed to stop the killing. But there are times when the Trump White House forgets who it is dealing with. Putin started the biggest land war in Europe since Hitler. It was unprovoked and unnecessary. His actions have killed hundreds of thousands of Russians and Ukrainians — and maimed many more. He has fired his missiles on Ukrainian apartment blocs and train stations. He has tried to freeze Ukrainian civilians into surrender by crippling electric-power plants. His troops have kidnapped hundreds of Ukrainian-born children and relocated them to unknown new homes in Russia. Ukrainian troops have been tortured and executed with Gestapo-like barbarism. Realpolitik may mean we have to deal with this monster. But let us not forget he is a monster and presides over a barbaric regime.

Values, policies, manifesto commitments - all at play - but I confess I am slightly relieved on seeing these exit polls based on front bench + wider political talent. Labour has bags of it going into government (and they’ll need it) while the Tories have been lacking for a while.

Much better format from @SkyNews to hold both leaders to account on both track records and plans. My sense is increased accountability has put the last 14 years in a stark light. This record is not a good one. A good night for Starmer / Labour - but many still need convincing.
