🚜🌱 WA Growers – we want to hear from you. The 2026 Grain Legume Grower Survey is now OPEN. GGA is inviting Western Australian growers to share their experiences, insights and perspectives on the use of grain legumes in crop rotations, what’s working, what’s changing, and where are the gaps. Since 2022, GGA has partnered with 15 grower groups across Western Australia through a GRDC-investment into grain legumes which investigates local barriers limiting adoption. GGA is now interested in understanding whether grower confidence in grain legume production has improved over this time. The price of urea isnt important - provided the grain/oilseed price is high. That's the problem. While Urea prices are not yet at record levels globally, we are experiencing close to the most expensive in terms of affordability when we compare to wheat prices.

@ipaddockapps We've measured that the average legume crop (with biomass ~6.5 t/ha) has N balance of ~100 kg N/ha. That won't be all available in first crop but adds a lot to the profitability of pulses when N is expensive and even more so when you can't get N

Interesting that the N uncertainty isn't driving increased legume plantings. Shows how bad legumes are for profitability in many farms?

A new report, “Lessons from Grower Groups in Disaster Recovery”, shares powerful insights from five WA grower groups that supported their communities through major emergency events in recent years. The report captures key challenges, strengths, and lessons learnt to build future resilience: 💡 Early involvement of grower groups and combining predictive tools with local insight leads to better outcomes. 💡 Emergencies are complex and varied preparedness, leadership, and tools must be in place before they hit. 💡 Local knowledge must be embedded in emergency response. 💡 Leadership often emerges from unexpected places and must be recognised and supported.
