@selfstyledsiren Very creepy photo. I have a strange affection for that film myself. It's a great snapshot of Fifties morality.

@camilla_sten Thank you so much, Camilla! You're very kind. I just turned in my next one, THE MAN WHO LED A DREAM LIFE, and my brain is beginning its usual process of slowly turning to mush.

@DavidShann29662 I need to sit down with The Wrong Man again soon, for that same reason. Been years. At the time I thought it was dour and slow, somehow I think it might play differently for me now.

"Well... some of my best friends are in concentration camps." Still obsessing over the new 4K restoration of the very great, *extremely* relevant LIFEBOAT that screened at Bologna. One of Hitchcock's most beautifully composed movies.

I am puzzled by the idea of The Great Gatsby in any form as noir, but we have been waiting for the 1949 version for a long time (and I am sure the novel going PD has everything to do with it)

The 1950s are underway at @MoMAFilm's "The Lady at 100" Columbia retrospective, with Gloria Grahame and Lee Marvin at their greatest in Fritz Lang's immortal THE BIG HEAT (1953) today at 4 pm. I just spent a lot of time watching this one over and over, and it only gets better.

@TurnbullMartin In 1957 the first house I lived in was a brand new tract home in Sepulveda way out in the San Fernando Valley. My elementary school still wasn't finished being built so a bookmobile would park in the playground regularly. We also split classroom time with a neighboring school.

I gather from this photo that some elementary schools in 1957 lacked libraries so the LA Public Library set up a traveling library. I wonder if the students of Stonehurst Ave Elementary in Sun Valley were fighting over Seuss's "The Cat in the Hat" which was published that year.

@NoraCharles1934 Rumor has it that McQueen walked off of The Great Escape because he was barely on screen in the first 45 minutes and only came back when he saw the rushes and realized that Garner, in his white turtleneck, was stealing the picture with his wit and charm.

Thank you to everyone who joined me in celebrating our dear James Garner. He held a space in Hollywood that was all his own. The leading men of today can only wish to have half of his charm, witt and courage...not to mention looks :) ❤️❤️❤️

@RodneyMarshall1 I remember enjoying it when I was a teenager. It was cleverly written, especially the recurring episodes with West's arch-nemesis, Dr. Loveless, played by Michael Dunn. The only thing that held it back from greatness was Bob Conrad's wooden delivery and those tight pants.

1965. Michael Garrison creates his "James Bond on horseback" Swinging 60s TV series The Wild Wild West, a show in which the Western rubs shoulders with spy-fi and sci-fi, starring Robert Conrad and Ross Martin as secret agents, and with an iconic animated title sequence.
