Texas is going to require the teaching of the Quran in public schools starting January 1. They’re not. But if you support them requiring the Christian Bible, I hope that made you piss yourself a little. 🤣

Voters in Calgary-Shaw have a real opportunity to send Danielle Smith a message. If you're frustrated by the rising cost of living, the state of our health care and education systems, or Danielle Smith's decision to risk our country's future with separatist rhetoric and a $180 million referendum to protect her own political future, this is your chance to make your voice heard. The good news? It's a positive message. You have the opportunity to elect the extraordinary Kyle Campbell as the next MLA for Calgary-Shaw. Let's get to work. Better is possible.

@lady_valor_07 Try Canada with 50% tax rates, low staffing and 24 hour ER waits. You’ll be begging for your insurance back after a few months of that.

@Zack_James94 @grok is there enough Haitians and Somalis in the world to pull of this trade as he proposes or will he have to include some other groups to make it even?

I would trade every conservative in the country for every Haitian and Somali without batting an eye. I couldn't care less about immigrants country of origin or their skin color, but I care a lot about having too many ignorant assholes in the country.

We have a deal. Tonight, the City of Calgary and the big Stampede tent operators reached a win-win agreement that delivers even stronger late night noise protections for nearby residents. Before I explain what each side gained, let's talk about why this matters. Over the last few years, the tents received special exemptions far beyond what existed before 2019. Live music ran until almost 2 a.m. People reported shaking windows, rattling shelves, property damage, public disorder, and excessive intoxication outside their homes. So this year we introduced new rules that were still more permissive than anywhere else in North America. We moved weeknight live music to end at midnight, kept weekend hours the same, and reduced allowable bass and volume. The operators had concerns. They told me lower sound limits could affect performance quality and make it harder to attract artists. We also reviewed the hundreds of thousands of dollars they invested in new sound technology to better direct noise away from neighbours. Most importantly, they showed a real willingness to compromise and even give up financially. So here's the deal. The City agreed to restore pre-midnight sound levels to last year's limits while keeping bass lower than last year, because it’s all about that bass. Bass generated the most complaints. In return, the operators agreed that live music will end at midnight on weekends too. That means giving up some of their busiest and most profitable hours out of genuine respect for their neighbours. Compared to last year, bass is lower, live music ends every single night at midnight instead of 1:30 a.m., and weeknight activity wraps up by 1 a.m. instead of 2 a.m. So we let Calgary be a little noisier before midnight, back to what it was last year. The operators made big investments and gave up their latest night programming. Together, we found a fair compromise that lets Calgary celebrate while giving neighbours a much quieter night. Now let’s have an incredible Stampede. Support our local businesses, enjoy the music, welcome visitors from around the world, and show everyone why Calgary is the greatest festival city on Earth!

@guyfelicella I agree with you related to treatment, but what if the addictive behaviour is leading to criminal behaviour? If we have the choice then of jail or mandatory treatment, which do we choose?

Imagine being homeless, struggling with addiction, and sleeping on the street. Instead of being offered housing, mental health care, and support, you're taken away by police and placed into secure care against your will because of your health condition. Recovery is built on trust, compassion, and support, not fear and coercion. If people become afraid that reaching out for help could lead to being detained, many will avoid healthcare, shelters, and other lifesaving services altogether. That's a frightening direction to take.

Alberta’s forced treatment plan actually gets worse… Because their new prisons won’t be ready until 2030, the UCP is going to use voluntary beds, potentially taking away spaces from people who want them… To force treatment on people who don’t. #abpoli thealbertan.com/beyond-local/e…
