After 5.5 years of city cycling I got hit for the first time tonight. I had 1 kid with me. I'm so mad. I was on a MUP, at an intersection & driver had a stop sign. I made eye contact & he slowed. Then he turned right into us, hitting my back tire.

Ok @airbnb, what the fuck. On Wednesday evening, Aug 16, in the middle of an Airbnb reservation at a cabin 30 min outside Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, my party and I (6 people) were notified of an immediate evacuation order for the area. (1/x)

I have a friend in Clareview who I guess technically lives in a 15 minute neighbourhood but itโs all along and across arterials or through parking lots. ๐ฅฒ

Itโs a great first step to have that list of things within 15 minutes walk.
But if that walk isnโt safe and pleasant, weโre only maybe 40% of the way there.

Anyone else living in #yeg (>10 years) feel like it's grown too crowded? I've never lived outside AB. I've just been feeling crowded out. Might be pandemic side effect? & some places have < hours, so more ppl in fewer hours too. I just really don't like going places anymore. ๐ข

@conradnobert This guy has fixed both our washer and dryer, and they now both run better than when we moved in 8+ years ago. Quick response, very knowledgeable and thorough, and I like his dry sense of humour. The cat likes him too. Might be >1 guy, but same both times

Our regular appliance repair place comes to us in Strathcona for $120/visit. No problem with that.
However, for my dad's place on Sask Dr 14 blocks away they doubled their visit fee once they found out the address! ๐
Anyway, can anyone recommend a dishwasher repair place?

Friends who haven't come over to Mastodon, I miss you. I know it's different, but that's not a bad thing. I've been avoiding this place, and trying to get up the courage to eventually leave it completely. It would sure help to have a few more friends on the other place.

In the stream, she repeated her idea that you need to use your "own money" or raise donations in order to pay for medical care. She doesn't want AHS to "make decisions about whether or not you get medical treatment". So instead, it will depend on your ability to pay for it? /6

Maybe Legal Aid doesn't believe that waiting indefinitely for a lawyer is the same thing as not being able to get one. It's the same thing. And the delays are hugely prejudicial to those waiting. #ableg #abpoli

The only viable alternative for us right now is East Coast, which would be very different, smaller than ideal, and have its own challenges - including impact from climate change. Not to mention distance from both sets of parents. ๐ There's no winning.

I've always been a bit torn between big city and small (100,000 - 400,000 would be ideal for me), but the more #yeg sprawls & struggles with growth, the less happy I am. My kids' childhood is very different than mine, in many ways.

Even if DS is gone by May, I don't know how much I really want to stay here. So much damage has already been done, with more to come, & AB has become so divided. Plus I feel like #yeg has outgrown me. I'm a small town girl. I'm getting tired of the city.
