@DavidCh67439188 I think that if we are to help the 25-30% who struggle with literacy, we need to rethink Eyfs reading. Trying to teach phonics to children who will not be able to make anything of it. Being read to is the answer.

In all of the many, many conversations I had with children over my years in education, i cannot recall anyone ever rushing to tell me about the fantastic phonics lesson he/she had. Many more enthusiastically told me about a book they had read or which had been read to them…
