In 2022, Paula Denison entered the emergency room at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Mississippi with a headache and altered mental status. Two hours later, her family was told that she was brain dead and an organ procurement company was contacted, even though she had not been legally declared dead by an MD. That happened after another two hours. So, Denison’s care switched: she was not given treatment for her brain injury, but was shunted toward efforts to preserve and protect her organs. By 2 a.m. the next day, the lawsuit states, “Ms. Denison received various medical treatments and procedures, including laboratory testing of her blood and urine, culturing of blood and sputum samples, fluid administration, medication administration, vital sign monitoring, and surgical procedures. The surgical procedures included incising Ms. Denison's abdomen and obtaining biopsies of her liver to test for acceptable organ donation.” Despite not receiving proper neurological care, however, Denison began to improve: “Notwithstanding continued increasing levels of medication administration, Ms. Denison continued to improve neurologically, and was exhibiting reactive pupils, spontaneous respirations, opening of her mouth wide to gag when suctioned, physically flexing and moving in response to painful stimuli, and physiologically reacting to pain by exhibiting reactive changes in her blood pressure and heart rate…the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency (MORA) determined that Ms. Denison was not an acceptable organ donor, because she ‘did not meet neurologic criteria,’ i.e., she was not dead.” Denison was then transferred back to Anderson from the MORA facility, where she died two days later. We will never know how much Paula Denison might have improved if doctors had treated her original condition aggressively instead of writing her off as an organ donor. Her family is suing.

I'll be at How the Light Gets In @HTLGIFestival in May, doing 3x sessions: assisted death, moral universalism, feminism. Loads of great speakers, and real diversity of thought (though I never understand why they don't call it Hay-On-Why). Tickets here howthelightgetsin.org/festivals/hay?…

Please listen to this. Pro-#assistedsuicide MP Tom Gordon, noting Noelia Castillo and her father trying to stop her euthanasia, asks how we would 'prevent this sort of thing' (her father's actions) in the UK. These fanatics are dangerous.
Right To Life UK@RightToLifeUK

🚨During the Westminster assisted suicide Bill’s Commons Committee Stage, pro-assisted suicide MP Tom Gordon criticised the father of Noelia Castillo for trying to save her life, smearing his efforts. Don’t expect that assisted suicide supporters here would stop such cases!

This weekend, I will be speaking at Oxford with @bindelj ! Not as an academic. As a child born through surrogacy. A child separated from her mother at birth. My surrogate mother once told me: “If I had held you one last time, I wouldn’t have let you go.” This is not a story. It is a $200 billion industry. We are translating my book into English to bring this testimony into the language of global decision-making. We need your help to make this happen. This is a key point. If assisting death is defined in law as “medical treatment“ all doctors and healthcare professionals will be obliged to participate in it- or face regulatory consequences. The GMC is already revising their guidance. Consultation is open until June.

I’m getting really sick of this absolute contempt for anyone with an ethical objection to state facilitated suicide. Religion and belief are protected characteristics but they rarely seem to have that status in this debate.

ORWELLIAN: Baroness @Fox_Claire points out that under the current assisted suicide Bill, GPs & nurses could be mandated to participate in assisted suicide training or assistance. Pro-assisted suicide fanatic Baroness Gerada explicitly supported compulsory training earlier.

If this is accurate and those doctors told her she had to move forward with euthanasia because her organs had been committed, those doctors should not be allowed to practice medicine.
USA NEWS 🇺🇸@usanewshq

It is now confirmed by the hospital that Noelia Castillo Ramos has been euthanized. She reportedly was having second thoughts in the final days, but doctors convinced her to move forward since some of her organs have already been reserved for donation.
