I write about #cleanenergy for my day job, everything else on evenings and weekends. Semicolon lover; will fight for the Oxford comma.

There's a new heat pump in town with *no outdoor unit*: The Merino Mono Retails for $3,800 including installation. Mounts to the wall with two small holes to exchange heat w/ outside. Just in SF and LA for now. Founding team is Ex-Quilt, Ex-Gradient. heatmap.news/sustainability…

@Samthemann21 Since it’s all reactions to my timeline and what I’m talking about and what I’m thinking, it is geared towards her. You however, do not suck. I am willing to bet that you are actually probably a pretty nice and decent person in real life and I hope you have a good night.

Just one more comment on the GLP1 crowd. My mother is severely obese. She is 76 years old. A few months ago she went on GLP1s and has lost 40lbs. She is more active now. Her blood work has improved. Is their argument that I should be calling up my mom and calling her lazy and a cheater?

your could ask AI to help you brainstorm ideas for novels or you could do it the old fashioned way: long walks, post it notes, dreams, daydreams, conversations with other writers, staring at the wall, free-writing, visual arts, meditating, lots of reading, & living a full life.

Dear Jews in the DMV: I will unexpectedly be back in DC tomorrow. “Inviting a stranger or acquaintance to a Passover Seder is considered a significant mitzvah (good deed/commandment) and a core part of Jewish tradition. It fulfills the mandate to "welcome the stranger" (recalling the Exodus)”. In other words… does anyone have an extra seat for me at their Seder table? I would be so grateful. Thanks, Diana

Here in the jury pool room, I'm one of two people wearing a covid mask that I've seen. Periodically the room is rocked by massive coughing fits. This mask won't be enough, I worry. Y'all public spaces didn't used to feel this way. Have y'all just accepted this?

My sister who is an absolute fucking bad ass. She probably has 10% body fat, runs those half marathons in the mountains of Colorado and rock climbs. Her six pack is better than yours. Oh, and she is 54. Anyway, she leads a three times a weekly zoom exercise class for my mom, my aunt, my other sister, her mother-in-law and my cousin.. They’ve been doing it for several months. No one ever misses. They live all over the country. I thought it was bad ass.

If anyone is interested in participating in something like this, please let me know. She is thinking about expanding it to people outside the family. In her words it’s geared towards people on GLP1s or who haven’t worked out before who are maybe middle aged or older who want to work on muscle strength and balance and who is uncomfortable going to the gym. The class lasts under 30 minutes and is geared for people at all activity levels. Her husband has been encouraging her to expand.

Holy shit. Is anyone else seeing how the LLM basically is *bringing in medical misogyny* here? The person asking said nothing about the patient "being dramatic," nothing even pointing in that direction. Example of how various human biases get written into automated software

I think Covid cases are higher this week than the graphs are saying. I say this because many people I know in my personal life are sick (& testing positive for COVID), & I’m a teacher with many students and MANY are sick with fevers right now.

What are reasonable things to write off on your taxes as business expenses if you have a consulting company and work from home? Phone. Internet. What else?

I guarantee you that this is not accurate. Hospitals typically will not give uninsured patients that big of a discount. In some cases they won't give them much of a discount at all. If you have much income or assets, they may well come after them if you don't pay. Most health insurance plans don't have a $5,000 deductible either. And the insurance companies have prior contracts with hospitals and other health care providers such that they get reduced rates over those chargemaster rates you're quoting.

American is a healthy 28 year old, he decided to skip paying for health insurance this year because the cheapest plan was $900 per month with a high deductible He had to spend 2 nights in the ER without insurance, he breaks down the bill “This is my receipt from spending 2 days in the hospital: - It totaled about $24,000 - My CT scan alone was $8,300 - Laboratory, 6,000 - IV therapy, $1,020, $4,000 in total And while $24,000 seems like a lot of money, let me show you something. This is what I'm actually paying, $2,478 because when you don't have insurance, these hospitals give you a discount. They discounted $22,000 off of this bill” “But if I had insurance, I wouldn't have gotten that discount. So it would've been a $24,000 bill billed to my insurance, and then my insurance would've said, ‘Hey, you have a $5,000 deductible. You need to pay $5,000 for this last emergency room visit.’ Then you tack on the $900 a month that I'd be paying for that insurance. I'd be paying $20K this year for healthcare. So the craziest part about this is even if I have another hospital visit, by the end of this year, I'm still gonna be paying less than I would if I had insurance. At minimum, my cost for healthcare this year would've been $20,000 with insurance. Right now I'm at $2,400.” US Health Insurance is a scam

a freeway costs $50-200 million per mile to build and we don't ask it to turn a profit. a train line proposes the same price tag and suddenly it needs to be self-funding by 2031. the infrastructure we subsidize reveals what we value and we have chosen the car every single time
