Today Zelensky was awarded the International Four Freedoms Award — a prize rooted in Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1941 vision of freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. This is a mockery of the very idea of that award. A mockery of its principles. It is a mockery of the Ukrainian People. It is a mockery of millions of Ukrainian men who live in constant fear — fear of being forcibly conscripted, brutalized, and thrown into a kill zone against their will. It is a mockery of those who have lost everything simply for trying to choose their own fate. It is a mockery of the dozens of men who have already died — drowning in rivers, perishing in mountains — desperate to escape a country that denies them the very freedoms this award claims to honor. This is not a celebration of freedom from fear — it is a grotesque indulgence, rewarding Zelensky for keeping an entire nation in Fear.
