Even before @oliviachow entered the race, right-wing trolls have been desperately flinging racist tropes at her. For years I've watched her stay calm & focused despite xenophobic attacks. Olivia's only gotten smarter, stronger & even more caring. She has faith & won't be moved.

From huge rent increases to being evicted...renters are more anxious than ever. I get it! I grew up in St. James Town and spent half of my life renting. My Secure Affordable Homes Plan gives renters their power back. Learn more about my plan here: oliviachow.ca/olivia_chow_an…

@EdKrassen Many bathrooms and change areas are now being designed individually. Individual stalls and nothing to do with gender or genitals. I would worry more about why this worries these people so much? If trans folk pee on the wall in between the two washrooms. Would that help?
English

Republicans like Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, Ron DeSantis and others are strictly against allowing transgender individuals to use bathrooms of the gender they identify as.
Commonly, their argumentation involves notions like the admission of transgender women into women's restrooms is hazardous and menacing for other women.
Here are three problems I see with this narrative.
1) If you ban transgender people from using the bathroom of the gender they identify as, then that means transgender men will be forced to use the women’s room. That means people like Rex Cameron (pictured below and unfortunately now deceased) would be using the ladies’ room. Are you telling me that this is “less intimidating,” and “safer” for women than the alternative?
2) If you limit public restrooms only those with the female/male genitalia, how exactly does one identify the difference between a transgender male and a cis male entering a woman’s room? Doesn’t this open up the possibility that male sexual predators would pretend to be transgender males in order to gain access to the women’s room? It is impossible to tell the difference without examining their private parts before they enter.
3) When you go to a clothing store, you will often see unisex changing rooms. These places allow for either men or women to walk into a room, open a stall, lock it, and then change their clothing. This means that men, women, nonbinary and transgender people all share the same changing rooms but utilize individual stalls within. We rarely see the same outrage about this. Is this really much different from the use of public restrooms which have stalls with locks on them as well?
I’m genuinely asking these questions. I don’t know if there is a perfect answer to the transgender bathroom situation but the answers that people like MTG and Ron DeSantis provide also present new problems that may be more concerning than the original. I think if people were more willing to discuss sensible solutions, we could come up with answers that better fit the general population's opinions and needs.
Here is a stat that many may not consider. It’s estimated that up to 1.7% of the human population has an intersex trait (meaning traits that do not fit into binary medical definitions of male or female sexual or reproductive anatomy). Who picks which bathroom they use? Things aren’t always black and white. Neither should answers be for every situation.
I’d love to hear your thoughts.

@CarolynHonkhonk @MyEveningOut Really? For a bunch of “do your research” types you should try doing that yourselves. It’s a symbol for standing against climate change 🙂 🟧 ☮️

Toronto needs a Mayor who can unite progressives and win. Olivia Chow is ready to tackle the biggest problems as Mayor. That's why Gil Penalosa and I endorsed her today. twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1…

Olivia Chow has been a giant presence in my life since I was in public school. My parents repeatedly told my sisters and I, that Olivia always fights for the "little guys." For years we saw her do that and she's ready to do it again.
Best wishes to a good friend!
