@UnitedKiwi @jitsnz I worked at the Royal Society at this time - Marsden has funded humanities and social sciences all along. The 2018 trial was simply testing different ways to select which grants got funded. It didn't change what subjects could be funded.

@jitsnz I believe you may be referring grants that possibly came under psychology. Also recall many psy projects making it through to funding in the same timeframe. Would that be what you're thinking of? I came from the sciences so the change in 2018 was widely discussed in our circle

@UnitedKiwi @jitsnz I would also add that Marsden has been the one of, if not the main source for Humanities and Social Science funding. More widely NZ investment in research relative to GDP has long been well below OECD average.

@jitsnz To be specific the humanities and social sciences were only put in as a trial in 2018 so it's a return of the Marsden to it's intended STEM purpose. H & SS will go to to their other previous and current sources.

@UnitedKiwi @jitsnz Marsden Fund ran a 2018 trial to see if there were more effective ways to evaluate proposals, given the process is an intensive one. The trial included the humanities, social sciences, economic & human behaviour subjects. These subjects have all been part of the fund for decades.

Our members @waikato will strike for 3.5 hours on Friday - after 8 months of negotiations, the Vice Chancellor has only moved by 0.1% despite the fact our claim fits within their budget for pay movement. teu.ac.nz/news/teu-membe…

2 hours on the train and 4 hours on the ferry to get from London Waterloo to Jersey, but with a view this good I’ll choose this over flying every single time

I learned a lot and had great fun discussing animal and, in particular, penguin histories at the "Animal Histories" workshop at @MonashUni last night/this morning. Thanks to Rohan Howitt and @HistoryKateS for letting me participate remotely. #envhist 🐧🌊

Let’s face it. What’s the point of staying calm when my whole network is justly up in arms as universities seek to sock it to staff. #rāmereshorts
