🚨 Global operation safeguards 4,400 potential trafficking victims, detects 13,000 irregular migrants Operation Liberterra III saw the arrest of 3,744 suspects, including more than 1,800 for human trafficking and migrant smuggling offences, based on initial reporting from participating countries. During the operation across 119 countries, law enforcement agencies mobilized more than 14,000 officers, conducting hotspot surveillance and targeted raids, as well as reinforced border controls. Authorities opened more than 720 new investigations, many of which are ongoing. Major findings include: 🔵Trafficking-fueled scam schemes remain a serious concern in Asia and Africa, but improved intelligence, detection and screening mechanisms are resulting in more arrests and hundreds of victims being repatriated. 🔵 While sexual exploitation remains highly reported, forced labour and forced criminality are increasing, with domestic servitude and organ removal also detected. 🔵 Cases involving victims from the Americas and Asia in Africa point to changing trafficking dynamics, contrasting with historically observed patterns of African victims being trafficked abroad. 🔵 Migration patterns in the Americas have largely reversed, with South American nationals now travelling southward through Central America. 🔵There is continued pressure along Atlantic and Mediterranean maritime routes, particularly from West and North Africa toward Europe. 🔵 Authorities are increasingly using online monitoring to detect and track trafficking and smuggling networks. 🔵 Human trafficking and migrant smuggling continue to be closely linked to crimes such as document fraud, money laundering and drug trafficking. 🔗Read more: interpol.int/News-and-Event…

The International Day of Police Cooperation (7 September) is a reminder of a simple but profound truth: behind every badge, behind every investigation, behind every operation, there are men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting others.

Today’s criminals are more agile, more connected, and more ruthless than ever before. Human traffickers prey on the vulnerable. Drug cartels poison our streets and our children. Cybercriminals hide behind screens, stealing identities and holding hospitals, schools and businesses hostage.   Emerging threats—deepfakes, online grooming, AI-driven fraud—are now part of our daily reality.

And yet, every single day, police officers stand as the first line of defence. They patrol our neighbourhoods, dismantle criminal networks, comfort victims, and they put themselves at risk to keep families safe. They serve not for glory or recognition, but out of a deep sense of duty to their communities.

This year’s theme, “ICT and AI in policing”, is not just about technology. It’s about making sure the men and women on the front lines have the tools and training they need to face the challenges of tomorrow.

INTERPOL exists to support and connect our 196 member countries, to help join the dots that criminals hope will stay hidden, and to make sure that no officer, no community, no nation stands alone in this fight.

International police cooperation is not an abstract concept. It is what allows a child to be rescued from exploitation, a shipment of deadly drugs to be intercepted, a cyberattack to be stopped before it cripples a hospital. It is what turns the courage of individual officers into a global force for good.

Our mission goes beyond crime and punishment. It is about protecting families, safeguarding economies, and preserving the very fabric of societies around the world.

On this World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, it’s important to remember that: 🔵 Human trafficking is a complex crime that takes many forms: sexual exploitation, forced labour and even organ removal, each presenting unique challenges for an effective law enforcement response. 🔵 Traffickers use different methods to recruit victims. A recent INTERPOL report showed how human trafficking-fueled scam centres have expanded their global footprint. As of March 2025, victims from 66 countries were trafficked into online scam centres, with no continent left untouched. 🔵 While human trafficking and migrant smuggling are distinct crimes, they can be linked. Migrant smugglers exploit people seeking better lives and can use their desperation as an entry point for trafficking. At INTERPOL, we are committed to protecting victims and bringing to justice those responsible for these crimes which exploit the most vulnerable members of our society. #EndHumanTrafficking

Organized crime fuels human trafficking worldwide. 74% of traffickers operate within organized crime groups, exploiting more victims more violently than independent criminals. Proactive law enforcement operations are crucial to #EndHumanTrafficking.

Panama🇵🇦 and Spain🇪🇸 dismantle human trafficking network. A joint operation between the @PoliciaDePanama and Spain’s @Policia has led to the arrest of six suspects in Madrid. Three victims were rescued - one Panamanian and two Colombian women. Operation Puerta del Sol was launched to dismantle a criminal organization engaged in human trafficking, which recruited victims in Panama and other regions for sexual exploitation in Spain. The investigation began after a young Panamanian woman was identified as a victim of human trafficking, having been lured by a foreigner with a false job offer to Spain and subjected to sexual exploitation upon her arrival.
