I am writing this post after hearing abt an incident in a pet clinic where an elderly couple (both in their 80s) burst out crying in public after their beloved dog passed away. Someone there told me that this dog meant everything for them as both their children have settled abroad. This was their child for the last 15 yrs. To the kids there abroad or in other cities in India bragging abt the classy retirement homes for senior citizens where their parents reside or abt how they take care of all the needs of their parents, this is the reality: 1. You PPL are so selfish that for monetary gains or career growth you chose to let your old, ailing parents alone in the twilight of their lives. 2. Paying their monthly rents or bills online is being done to assuage ur guilty conscience 3. This pittance you are sending them or paying for them means nothing to you compared the dollars or pounds u are actually earning. 4. You are letting them die alone after everything they have done for you. I have frequented such residential communities or houses in which aged parents live with the hope that neighbours or relatives or staff there will help during emergencies. The elderly try to put up a brave face and brag abt how much their loving hildren care for them and call them often. The reality is that these parents no longer matter to their kids. Parehts need unconditional love and care now and to be with their close ones as they age. Stunned to see that India which once had such strong familial bonds and reverence for the elderly is reduced to this. NRIs, don't pounce on this post & defend your actions.
