Only two mines in the world produce the critical mineral antimony. Both are owned by a Chinese state mining company. One of those mines is in Canada - now shuttered by Minmetals effectively giving China world control of this important military mineral. Now the Liberals are building a $700 million dollar road to another mine in the arctic also owned by Minmetals as reported by my colleague @Gab_Hardy Canada must take back control of our natural resources including minerals that are critical to our sovereignty.

Happy 103rd birthday George. Angel and I were honoured to celebrate this incredible day with you. You are a national hero and icon of Vancouver Island. I always value the wisdom you impart during our conversations. You embody what it means to be Canadian. Angel says thank you for the dance.

I’m hosting a coffee & roundtable discussion this Tuesday with a special guest I know you’ll want to meet. Dan Mazier is the Conservative Shadow Minister for Health and will be in Shawingan Lake. Dan and I have been working on some important issues in Ottawa lately and we’ll be discussing them together. Thousands of internationally trained doctors who can’t get licensed to practice in Canada. Canadians who went to medical school abroad and can’t come home to work. A decade of drug normalization policies that haven’t worked. And the threats to the natural health products Canadians use. Dan is also a lifelong farmer and former President of Manitoba’s largest general farm organization, so feel free to bring your agriculture and rural concerns and priorities. Come by Tuesday, April 7 from 2 to 4pm at Shawinigan House Coffee & Chocolate.

Duncan Christian School hosted a Good Friday service bringing together well over 1000 people from multiple churches throughout the Cowichan Valley. Angel and I were grateful to attend and take part in the moving service, including prayers for Kylie and all those affected by the Tumbler Ridge tragedy.

It’s hard to believe that 10 years has passed since Constable Sarah Beckett was tragically killed in the line of duty protecting Langford and the Westshore. When I first heard the news it felt like time stopped. I remember going to the memorial service like it was yesterday. I have met her husband. He is quiet, kind and a loving father to their two sons though. I can’t begin to imagine how this has impacted his life; even now 10 years later. Her death, for me, is an important reminder of the sacrifice those who serve our country and communities make every day. Let us honour the fallen. sarahbeckettmemorialrun.com #westshorercmp

The only stockpile of critical minerals we have is a stockpile of MOUs, plans and agreements all on paper. It’s time for Canada to take control of our resources and actually build up stockpiles of our critical minerals, not just talk about it.

Could this be the next Prime Minister of Canada? Recently, I’ve been finding myself up all night trying to figure out what the hell is going on in the world and if we're on the verge of World War III… So, today I’m sitting down with Pierre Poilievre who is the leader of Canada's Conservative Party and Leader of the Opposition. He became one of the youngest MPs elected to Canadian parliament and has spent 2 decades fighting for working class people and fair opportunities. Pierre told me that he’s on a mission to make Canada the freest and most affordable place in the world, and he’s not stopping until that happens. To give you more context on his background, Pierre was adopted at birth by two school teachers who struggled financially and ended up losing multiple homes which meant that they had to start again from nothing several times throughout his childhood. That experience shaped what he believes about work, money, and fairness. When speaking about his parents, he told me that they taught him that it doesn’t matter where you come from. It matters what you do. That belief is now at the centre of everything he’s trying to change.

Canada has the world’s fourth largest oil reserve – yet our gas prices have still skyrocketed because of a conflict halfway around the world. We have to get our resources to market, which means getting shovels in the ground and green-lighting major projects that have already been promised. I will continue to push the Government to deliver on the projects they promised so that we can build leverage and rebuild our economy.

Thank you to our friends from Portugal for meeting with Members of the National Defence committee to discuss opportunities to strengthen maritime security in the Atlantic. I worked for many years in maritime security while serving around the world in the RCN. Most people are unaware of the global scale and impact of drug and migrant smuggling as well as illegal fishing and pollution violations in the oceans around the world. I look forward to future opportunities to expanding partnerships with our allies to protect Canada from these often ignored but significant threats to global stability.

Salmon is a shared resource, not something the government can gatekeep. The proposed Liberal policy of rewriting the Salmon Allocation Policy will risk shutting everyday Canadians out of public access fishing. Thank you to @UniforCanada for the productive meeting about the work required to support unions in vital industries like forestry in Cowichan – Malahat – Langford. We spoke at length about the UNIFOR members at the Crofton and Chemainus Mills – who are facing devastating closures and curtailments. I discussed some of the work I have done including helping workers get supports, holding a forestry town hall and sitting on a local forestry working group with provincial, municipal, union and industry representatives. I have also started a petition calling on the Government and Minister to immediately provide the promised retraining funding and necessary EI extensions to make coverage equal and fair to all employees. I will continue to stand up for industry and business on Vancouver Island, including forestry, and hold the Minister to account for her promises made earlier this month to local union leaders.
