Multiple police agencies responded after occupants of two vehicles engaged in a dispute and led to a shooting in front of Dundee Highlands Elementary School in West Dundee Wednesday afternoon. The West Dundee Police Department said the incident happened shortly before 2:00 p.m. Wednesday when the occupants of two vehicles were engaged in a dispute. The vehicles traveled into West Dundee and were westbound on Edwards Avenue just west of Ryan Lane when shots were fired from between the two vehicles. Witnesses stated the vehicles immediately fled from the area. The cause of this dispute or where it began is unknown, police said. Officers from multiple agencies conducted an extensive canvass and grid search to ensure no one was injured, to attempt to locate anyone involved and to preserve and recover potential evidence. While several spent shell casings were recovered from the scene, there were no reports of injuries or residential property damage. Given the proximity to Dundee Highlands Elementary School, police say they were in immediate communication with school officials, who implemented the appropriate safety protocols. The incident was not related to the school, nor was it related to the incident on Tuesday, where a "reckless prank" by a high school student resulted in the elementary school activating its safety protocols that day as well. "Again, there is no active threat to the public. There are no reported injuries." The investigation remains ongoing and is being carried out by numerous police agencies. "More information will be made available when appropriate, and the public's patience is greatly appreciated in the meantime." facebook.com/12210559142673…

A West Chicago woman is facing DUI and homicide charges after police say she fatally struck an Elgin motorcyclist in St. Charles and fled the scene, leaving him to die on Wednesday evening. The St. Charles Police and Fire Departments were dispatched around 10:52 p.m. Wednesday to the intersection of Country Club Road and North 5th Avenue for a traffic crash involving injuries. It was reported at the time that an SUV and a motorcycle were involved in the crash, and a witness on scene reported that the driver of the involved SUV may have fled the scene, police said. Upon arrival, police and fire located the injured driver of the motorcycle and immediately began to render treatment. The motorcyclist, a 27-year-old male from Elgin, was subsequently transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. St. Charles Police located the SUV and the driver nearby. The driver of the SUV was identified as 29-year-old Morgan Mroz, of West Chicago. Further investigation into the crash resulted in the arrest of Mroz. The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team (KCART) responded to the scene and assisted with the crash investigation. The Kane County State's Attorney’s Office was contacted, and the following charges were approved against Mroz: - Failure to Report Crash or Death (Class-1 Felony) - Aggravated DUI Crash Causing Death (Class-2 Felony, 2-Counts) - Reckless Homicide (Class-3 Felony) - Possession of Controlled Substance Other Drug (Class-4 Felony) - Four Additional Traffic Citations Mroz was then transported to the Kane County Jail for a conditions and detention hearing. A Glendale Heights man is accused of leading police on a drunk driving high-speed pursuit while he was on a moped in Bloomingdale Friday morning. Dillon Burgett, 34, of the 1100 block of Harbor Court, appeared in First Appearance Court this morning charged with two counts of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding a Police Officer (Class 4 Felony), two counts of Misdemeanor DUI and multiple misdemeanor and petty traffic offenses including Improper Lane Usage and Operating a Motor Vehicle without a Valid Driver’s License. On March 27, 2026, at approximately 12:49 a.m., a Bloomingdale police officer responded to a panic alarm at the Circle K gas station, located at 250 East Army Trail Road. Upon his arrival, the officer allegedly observed a male, later identified as Burgett, exit the store and stumble in the parking lot. It is alleged that Burgett became belligerent and began yelling at the clerk, who had exited the store, and the officer. It is alleged that Burgett ignored the officer’s commands to stop, got on a moped and fled the gas station eastbound on Army Trail Road. It is further alleged that when the officer initiated pursuit, Burgett continued to flee, disobeying a red light at Army Trail Road and Swift Road before entering I-355 southbound. After another officer joined in the pursuit, it is alleged that the officers pursued the defendant with their emergency lights activated on I-355 where Burgett reached speeds of approximately 85 m.p.h. before exiting the expressway onto westbound North Avenue. It is alleged that Burgett proceeded westbound on North Avenue weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed until he turned northbound on Swift Road and then into a Speedway gas station where he jumped the curb and attempted to re-enter traffic on North Avenue but lost control of the moped and slid into a passing vehicle. Burgett was taken into custody at this time. It is alleged that Burgett’s BAC was .206. “In DuPage County, we have no tolerance for anyone who ignores officers’ commands to pull over and instead attempts to flee, putting the officers involved and the public at risk,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said. “What I find particularly troubling in this case are the allegations that Mr. Burgett led authorities on a dangerous high-speed chase on a major expressway while illegally operating a moped and drunk. I want to remind motorists that in DuPage County we are committed to putting an end to this epidemic of fleeing the police. Do not attempt to outrun the police as you will not be successful and will only make matters worse for yourself. I thank the Bloomingdale Police Department for their efforts in the safe apprehension of the defendant in this case and for their continued efforts in keeping our roads safe for everyone. I also thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Michael Pingaj and Kevin Kosman for their efforts in securing charges against Mr. Burgett.” “The Bloomingdale Police Department and others will take appropriate measures to apprehend offenders - no matter the mode of transportation,” Bloomingdale Director of Public Safety Frank Giammarese said. “We are grateful that the alleged offender, law enforcement nor any citizens were injured during this senseless act and thank State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and his team for filing the appropriate charges and their ongoing support of law enforcement.” Judge Thomas Else granted the State’s motion to deny pre-trial release to Burgett and his next court appearance is scheduled for May 4 in front of Judge Mia McPherson. facebook.com/12210559142673…

Police say a woman, who was a teacher and mother of five children, died in a "terrible tragedy" after a three-vehicle involving a Tesla along Randall Road in Batavia Wednesday afternoon. The Batavia Police Department responded around 4:19 p.m. Wednesday to the intersection of N Randall Rd and McKee St. The crash occurred in the intersection and involved a Tesla sedan and a Dodge pickup truck. Preliminary investigation revealed that the Tesla was heading southbound on N Randall Rd and was attempting to turn left onto eastbound McKee St. The Dodge was traveling northbound on N Randall Rd. Two female occupants of the Tesla were transported to an area hospital, one passenger with life-threatening injuries and one driver with non-life-threatening injuries. The front-seat passenger of the Tesla who suffered life-threatening injuries later died as a result of her injuries. She was identified as 37-year-old Maggie Espinosa. "She was a loving wife, devoted mother, and a truly beautiful soul who touched so many lives with her kindness, strength, and warmth. She was also a beloved teacher who taught so many of our children here in Batavia," said Nisreen Wakileh, a friend and neighbor to the Espinosa family. Espinosa leaves behind her husband, Jose Espinosa, and their five children, 10, 8, 4, and 2-year-old twins, who will "now grow up without their mother’s love and presence." The male driver of the Dodge was transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. A third vehicle, a Nissan SUV, was also involved in the crash and was not towed. One occupant of the Nissan was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Batavia Police Department said they grieve alongside the victim’s family and the community and offer their "sincere condolences to those affected by this terrible tragedy." No charges have been filed at this time. The crash remains an active and open investigation. facebook.com/12210559142673…
