@hillbillythings ...that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, & to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. ~ Eph. 3:17–19

I’d like to entitle this exquisite piece of art “Possum in a Tree Top.” PS. Don’t act like I’m not an exciting follow.

I saw a rainbow today. Not sundogs, flanking each side of the sun on a day that's too cold for clouds to exist. A rainbow, among soft grey clouds, almost like a shadow of color. Today feels like spring, like deep breaths that won't freeze your lungs, a softening. Our 13 yo thought she saw a rose-breasted groesbeak on the way to school today, but it must have been a red-winged blackbird, as many of them live by that pond we drove past. Plus, the groesbeaks don't return to our feeder until May 8 (May 9th on leap years) as they are punctual little birds. It's much too early to see a groesbeak. But I've heard rumors that there's robins in town. They always stop there for about a week before they come back to the farm. All the cement in town holds some gentle heat, and they experience spring about a week before us, pretty consistently. But the ground is breathing again, you can almost feel its inhale as it thaws. Critters waking up, and grass daring to take in light again. Today feels like spring.

Nun Day at Fenway Park was a cherished Boston tradition that dates back to the early 1960s. It originated as a special event organized by the Boston Red Sox, in collaboration with Boston Archbishop Cardinal Richard Cushing, to honor and host hundreds of nuns at a home game. The initiative began with an invitation from Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey to religious communities across greater Boston. Large groups of sisters, often dressed in traditional habits, attended games in significant numbers—such as the approximately 700 nuns who joined Cardinal Cushing for a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers on July 5, 1961. The nuns occupied sections in the grandstand, typically on the third-base side, making for a memorable scene. The last major observance of ‘Nun Day’ appears to have occurred around 1972.

On this date, in the Third Age, was the Downfall of Barad-dûr. If you don't know what that was, ask any geek or nerd of your acquaintance, but allow some time for the response. @StephenAtHome can fill you in, too.

8b/8 fin But in this case, for the Guthrie family and the whole Tucson community, I ask for a measure of healing mercy and grace to law enforcement at work. May we all know peace in this situation, soon.

8a/8 nearby, & a series of decisions that led to that house in Tucson. And whatever has happened since. I do pray for peace, in global conflicts, for disasters far away, for people I haven't met. Celebrity prayers, though, I have seen can become an odd obsession of their own.

For a variety of reasons which would be a long and tedious theological essay no one wants to read, I am not a big fan of media-driven prayer concerns. They can turn into a can-you-top-this series of stuff people heard on TV or worse, read on the internet, & can lapse into... 1/8

See, not everyone honors the high twiturgical argument calendar which states we should be shifting from arguing about whether or not we should be fasting to whether or not Easter has pagan roots. And some low-twiturgy people are coming in and messing it up with calling women sexual slurs and that isn’t until May when we start arguing over swimwear. Do we need to move to having a traditional and contemporary twiturgical calendars? C’mon people.

My grandpa passed away a couple of weeks ago and I have been traveling. He was an incredibly kind man who taught me a lot. I never once heard him yell. I know the comments will be filled with condolences, but here’s the thing: he passed away at 89 years old in his sleep. Surrounded by family. In his own home. I’ve lost friends who weren’t so lucky; whose lives were cut short from war and many times the aftermath of war. I’m so happy I had the chance to really know my grandfather. I’m happy he taught the value of kindness. As sad as I am that the world is without him, I can’t help but hope that someday I get to go out the same way: surrounded by family at an old age.
