They are back!
Vultures flying pretty low on a ridge, bringing hope and much needed bio-diversity. Nature’s scavengers, as they are commonly known, have made a comeback in Ranikhet’s sky after remaining elusive for past couple of yrs

@watimreading Though I’m not an expert on the subject, but I believe migration to the urban centres, shift from agriculture and cattle rearing based practices also has a role to play.

@drsureshpant I am told unlike the lowlands, these interior Himalayan regions have historically lower usage of diclofenac (a veterinary drug toxic to vultures), making them a "vulture-safe zone" where populations like the Himalayan Griffon and Egyptian Vulture can thrive.

Fresh start!
These horse chestnut trees on Ranikhet-Almora highway are back to life after having almost lost the battle of life in the summer of 2024 when our hills were ablaze! Thanks to the rains and their lust for life, the trees r smiling again.

हरिद्वार नाम लोकप्रयोग में हरद्वार है। पुराने प्रलेखों, सरकारी दस्तावेजों, कोर्ट-कचहरी के कागज़ात में हरद्वार नाम मिलता है। इन नामों में शैव और वैष्णव दृष्टि का भी अंतर है। हिमालय हर (शिव) की ससुराल है, ज्योतिर्लिंग केदारेश्वर सहित पाँच केदार (रुद्र, तुंग, कल्प, मध्यमहेश्वर, केदारेश्वर) इसी प्रखंड में हैं, इसलिए यह "हरद्वार" है; और नर-नारायण स्वरूप बदरीनाथ तथा त्रियुगीनारायण जैसे वैष्णव धामों का प्रवेश मार्ग होने से "हरिद्वार" भी है।

How many of you knew about the hidden #Fernery of #Ranikhet? 🌿
Surely, not in guidebooks.
Thanks to @LyfInTransit I discovered India’s largest open-air fernery, nurtured by the research wing of the #Uttarakhand Forest Department. The sanctuary has over 120 species of ferns.

Spring is in the air and our Fyonlis (pic1), Dandelions (Pic2) are smiling alongside apples, peaches, plums, apricots blossoms. Semals and Kacnars blossoms are not far behind though jacaranda is in waiting mode 😊
All in a day spent in Nature.
