A while ago, after writing here that I consider myself an Israeli and will remain one, I had a brief but interesting conversation with @susanabulhawa on this platform. She asked me (if memory serves) what it is that I miss about the Israel that precedes 7.10.23 and what to what am I holding on in my claim to be an Israeli. I answered that I may be a missing a load of lies but that I was born into this load. I grew up in a Hebrew-speaking family. I grew up Jewish, although Israel as a state attempted to produce its own version of Judaism, intensely nationalized (effectively substituting religion and culture for nationhood). I am 50 years old. A decision to simply repress or ignore my various imprints is one I (and I speak only for myself) have neither ability nor interest in making. During a broader discussion that preceded our brief exchange I wrote that I wanted to wholly remake Israel into a part of a single state in which Jews and Palestinians lived im full equality and dignity. Some time has passed. The overt degeneration of Israeli society grows harsher each day. I do not believe that any human group (or any human) possesses characteristics that are forever chiseled in stone. I don't think Israeli Jews are or were inherently evil. But now, after an occupation lasting nearly three generations and nearly three years of overt genocide and ethnic cleansing, I firmly believe that whenever Jewish Israeli society could choose evil over goodness and oppression over dignity, it did so. Jewish Israel is the sum of its choices and those were consistently corrupt, hollow and inhumane. They resulted in what I thought of as genocide by indifference and is now referred to genocide by attrition. All this to say that I have been thinking a lot about Ms. Abulhawa's question. I have come to realize that I miss nothing about the Israel that was and I abhor the Israel that now slouches towards Bethlehem to be born. What I want is a national and cultural identity built on the riches of Judaism and on the complete rejection of supremacy alongside the complete adoption of dignity and equality. I do not want to be deported once the current Israel is dismantled. I also belong here, not because my grandparents stole it but because it is my reality, my past and future. That fact by itself rights no wrongs. Israel in its supremacist form deserves no pity. Israelis must redefine their very being in order to be heard. I do not know when and how this will happen. With the best of my ability, I pledge myself to this cause. I expect nothing in return. This is my albatross. I would like to think that I can be accepted here. I am of this land. I would appreciate an opportunity to live out my sense of belonging.

Tulip Siddiq made a point of order in the House of Commons after Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch attacked Bridget Phillipson, again, "Kemi Badenoch called the Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson a spiteful class warrior" "And previously she's compared Bridget Phillipson to a gestapo officer" "Madame Deputy Speaker, I started out working in parliament as a teenager, and for 25 years of being involved in politics I have never seen the atmosphere here in parliament and outside quite so hostile and intimidatory, especially towards female elected representatives" "Madame Deputy Speaker, words matters and inflammatory language contribute to this hostility towards politicians, especially women" "Could I ask your advice whether the language that was used by the leader of the opposition today, towards the Secretary of State for Education, who is a woman who grew up in poverty, on a council estate, raised by a single mother, on free school meals, and worked her way up to Cabinet, is appropriate language to be used in the chamber" "Not only does this language contribute to hostility, it also puts off women, from coming into this very important profession"

The followers of Imam Ali can look themselves in the mirror and feel proud - perhaps unlike any other religious group in the world at this moment. What they achieved is the beginning of a major revolution in human history. And this chant is so powerful

@alon_mizrahi @Lila79703094 Imam Ali (AS) commanded us to 'be an enemy to the oppressor & a helper to the oppressed.' What the world calls 'moral towering' is simply the unyielding application of this sacred duty. While international bodies chose comfortable cowardice, the Resistance chose the path of honor

Wasn't this the inevitable path of Zionism? Reading extensible history of Zionism, I've been unable to come across anything that is inconsistent with what is happening today. There is nothing I've read that contradicts what is happening today. People who are shocked and American Zionists who refuse to condemn have in common ignorance of Zionist history.

For Israelis, it begins and ends with a second Palestinian Nakba. Palestinian proximity denies absolute Jewish "security". Palestinian "disappearance" validates Jewish supremacy. "We did that!" Subjagating Palestinian citizens is the rancid icing on the putrid cake.

Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur oPt
The man who accused me of ''witchcraft'' - after every other attack had failed - continues to champion institutional narcissism. Yet the message for him is clear: Enough with the bullying. Not every UN senior official accepts to be intimidated into silence.
Ahmed Shihab-Eldin@aseisfree

BREAKING: Israeli ambassador Danny Danon lost it on camera at the UN after Israel was added to a blacklist of parties suspected of conflict-related sexual violence. At a meeting Friday, Danon erupted at UN officials, demanded the resignation of Pramila Patten, the UN’s special representative on sexual violence in conflict, and tried to shout down Vanessa Frazier after she objected that the findings were based on verified evidence. “You will be quiet now,” Danon snapped. I interviewed Danny Danon 15 years ago on HuffPost Live. When I held him to account, he walked out of the interview. Sadly, the footage has been lost. But the pattern was not lost. This is what Israeli officials so often do when confronted with evidence they cannot bomb, bury, spin, or intimidate into silence: they attack the messenger. They accuse the institution. They demand resignations. They perform outrage as a substitute for accountability. The issue is not whether Danny Danon is offended. The issue is whether victims of alleged sexual violence, Palestinian detainees, and children in Israeli custody will be heard over the shouting of a state that has grown accustomed to impunity. Israel was recently added to a UN blacklist for conflict-related sexual violence. Danon revealed the strategy: when the evidence speaks, tell the room to be quiet.

Batoul Qalaji, her son Ali, and her parents, were killed in an Israeli attack earlier today on Sohmor, in Lebanon's Western Bekaa. Qalaji's colleague eulogized her, saying: "Today, let me tell you about Batoul. Batoul, who decided to work 100 jobs at the same time to support her young son, who had no one but his mother to embrace him, to help her sick father, and to stay by the side of her elderly mother. This is Batoul—the strong woman, striving for her child and her parents."

Instead of attacking Trump for failing to do enough to make peace with Iran, Democrats are calling him a weak little bitch for agreeing to ensure $300 billion in reconstruction financing. “Iran took Trump to the cleaners with this so-called understanding,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said on the Senate floor on Thursday, adding, “Are my colleagues on the other side of the aisle prepared to send Iran $300 billion when economic needs are so severe here at home? That’s what Trump wants them to do.” “With $300 billion, we could end homelessness, fund cancer research for 40 years, and give every child free pre-K for over 7 years. Instead, Trump is sending it to Iran,” tweeted Senator Amy Klobuchar. “Here’s what this deal basically is: Iran makes zero concessions, and the United States lets Iran trade oil for free and commits to give them $300 billion in reparations,” said Senator Chris Murphy. “Trump is touting a ‘deal’ that promises to lift all sanctions, allow Iran to export oil and potentially charge tolls, and hand over more than 300 billion dollars to that country,” said Senator Adam Schiff, adding that the deal “looks more like a surrender.” These prominent Democrats make it sound like Trump is just taking $300 billion from the American taxpayer, when according to Reuters the financing for the deal “will be comprised entirely of private-sector funds.” Democrats are essentially running the same bogus “Obama gave Iran pallets of cash” attack that Republicans used to use when slamming the 2015 JCPOA. More importantly, how revealing is it that these warmongering freaks are suddenly pretending care about how much $300 billion could do to help ordinary Americans? Whenever anyone tries to nudge the party an inch to the left on universal healthcare or whatever you see Democratic Party officials wagging their fingers at them telling them there’s no money for such pie-in-the-sky fantasies, but as soon as they get an opportunity to push for more war they’re out there saying they could use all that peace money to end homelessness. All of which will of course be right out the window when it comes time to vote for the next $1.5 trillion military budget. Democrats are such obnoxious liars. Their sleaziness is exceeded only by Trump supporters claiming their president deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for losing a war he started. Anyway, things are a mess. We’ll see how this all plays out.
