Scottie doesn’t appeal to anyone who doesn’t already like golf. This is what it is. He is making zero cultural impact, whereas Tiger was a Moses-esq figure. But the man’s golf is sublime. It’s an unusual juxtaposition. Scottie actually has more personality than Tiger but no aura.

Fun anecdote: The only reason the Europeans have never scored 19 points is because in 2006, Paul McGinley conceded a 25-foot putt on 18 to J.J. Henry on 18 (match was halved) after a streaker ran onto the green and dove into the pond. Europe won 18.5-9.5

@KVanValkenburg The PGA will escape the blame, but I think the US might have lost the Ryder cup all because Tommy got hoaxed by a Russell Henley holeout in the suburbs of Hartford.

Anyway, Keegan is now the RC lightening rod due to the failings of a previous generation of American golfers and despite my playful appreciation for the man, I fear he's being positioned to fail or be blamed unless home field advantage really does outweigh everything.

The funniest part of the Keegan/Playing Captain drama, when you really think about it, is that it's 80 percent Zach Johnson's fault. If he just puts Keegan on the '23 team instead of JT, Rick or Sam, Keegan brings a give a shit attitude to Italy and joins the boys club.
