Why am I opposed to Serbia joining the EU? 1: Loss of sovereignty We lose our sovereignty. Take Germany, Austria, or France as examples: they are all dictated to by Brussels. Certain laws must comply with Brussels’ standards. Serbs value their independence and their country; that is why I say NO. 2: Depopulation and migration There would be a massive depopulation of Serbia, as well as large-scale migration from Africa and Asia into the country. Look at Romania or Bulgaria: they have lost a significant portion of their population and are experiencing uncontrolled migration. I say NO. 3: Security Let us examine the issue more closely. In some EU member states, security has become a major concern. Take France as an example: social insecurity is widespread, prisons are overcrowded, and unemployment remains a problem. There are also urban riots and clashes between neighborhoods, where French people of various backgrounds fight over trivial matters. Undocumented migrants also commit assaults. In Germany and elsewhere, it is the same. I say NO. 4: Employment and the economy Some EU member states can barely make ends meet. The euro does not automatically mean prosperity. Many companies have closed or relocated to India or China, leading to job losses in developed countries. 5: Justice and laws A pedophile sometimes seems to have more rights than a victim. The legal age of sexual consent is set at 16 in some countries. I say NO. Honestly, I say this: the EU is not made for us. I live in France. Like many Serbs and others, I often hear people say that they want to return to their homeland because there is nothing left for them here. And by the way, have you ever wondered why the far right is rising in polls and elections in these countries, even in those I have not mentioned? It is because many people no longer want to be subjected to outside control; they want security and a Europe like it once was.
