Cool ride with @NateThompson yesterday in the Santa Cruz mountains. Some light off-roading, and a great 1000ft drop that was fun to bomb. Were in a bit of a bind when we found out this bridge had been washed out, though.

@RepScottHolcomb Alaska’s implementation is really interesting: a jungle primary, with the top four (regardless of party) advancing to a ranked choice general election. Leaves more choices for the general, which I think is a good thing.

@RepScottHolcomb RCV would be the better option. Eliminating runoffs in favor of plurality voting is worse in some ways, especially for crowded races where candidates can win with a really small percentage. A lot of primary elections would’ve had different results if not for the runoffs.

Do y’all favor eliminating runoffs? My sense is if Walker loses (& he will), the GOP will want to get rid of them in the upcoming session. [Walker will lose b/c he is an awful candidate; not b/c of the runoff.] If there is an effort to eliminate runoffs, expect a push for RCV.

The runoff for the U.S. Senate is expected to cost taxpayers over $10 million in the Atlanta area alone and many millions of dollars more across Georgia. Critics of Georgia’s runoff system say it’s wasteful and unnecessary. #gapol bit.ly/3OO1dIG

Does anyone know of any other future-proofing turnouts on underground rail networks that might be good examples for Austin? I note WMATA (Columbia Pike) & Buffalo (Tonawandas) below...
RAIL Magazine@RAILMag

@menorman Who knows? It’s so early in the process they’re making major changes like this. What shovel-ready would likely mean would be turnouts already cut in the tunnel. WMATA has this for a Columbia Pike line south of the Pentagon & Buffalo has for Tonawanda Line near LaSalle Station.

Raphael Warnock: “One thing I have not done — I have never pretended to be a police officer. And I’ve never threatened a shootout with the police.” Herschel Walker: [pulling out a badge prop, in violation of debate rules] “I am work with many police officers.” #GASenDebate

Just merged the implementation of SE-0365!! This turned out to be source breaking due to a bug in Swift 5, so the new functionality is only enabled in Swift 6. github.com/apple/swift/pu…

@MayorOfMARTA @RM_Transit @MARTAtransit Lenox is a bit of a weird example because the giant bus loop was meant to be the terminus of a busway. But the Red Line was built instead. Most other bus facilities seem appropriately sized imo.
