Players: Watch film of yourself & evaluate. How do you score, get to certain spots on the floor, succeed at your role? If your eval is lacking, ask yourself: do my workouts have substance? Am I focused on improving or impressing? Next level players devote time/energy to improving

If a player doesn’t play hard all the time, no skill they bring to the table can offset that. Playing hard is a prerequisite to playing. Period. Nobody succeeds by making half an effort. Make sure your players understand that laziness is unacceptable. Competing to win IS a skill!

As part of a team you have to realize that sometimes you’ll be on the bench. When that happens you have 2 options: you can either sit & wait your turn or you can be active & engaged in helping your TEAM win. You can encourage others or pout & sulk. There’s really only one option!

Kids have to learn to dig deep, struggle & fight their way out of adversity. You can put them on every kind of competitive team, get them a trainer/the best equipment/extra practice, but if they can’t claw their way past troubles that WILL come, they’ll never develop as athletes!

Practice is the most misused word in any sport. Practice isn’t just showing up. It’s hard work, discomfort, challenges, failing, intensity. Practice is preparation; it’s training. There’re no secrets. The greatest players are in the gym the most & never try to fake it. They work!
