I'm tired of physician blaming. Physicians didn't create the chargemaster. Physicians didn't limit med school enrollment. Physicians didn't create closed networks. Physicians didn't deny your medication. Physicians didn't deny your surgery. Physicians didn't make 10-minute appointments mandatory to keep the lights on. Physicians didn't design a system that profits from keeping you sick. The system is broken by people that never took the Hippocratic oath. Same people that ruin every other industry. Same people living in mansions. It's all exhausting.
Dhruv Vasishtha@dvasishtha

@MichaelAlbertMD I'm actively working on solving the systemic issues professionally. But your expectation is insane to put on the average patient who either cannot afford routine care or has to wait 6-12 months for it.

I wanted to pay these loans, I just couldn’t afford to pay half of my salary toward them which is why I applied for an income driven option to scale my payments to my income. For anyone thinking doctors go into this field for money, please think again. #MedTwitter #Residency

My IDR was approved today. During this time my loan was placed into forbearance which accrued 17 thousand dollars in interest. That’s an additional almost 20k that I have to pay back because of the larger systems at play. The interest rates on these loans are set by Congress.

I graduated medical school May 2024 and immediately applied for an income driven repayment plan on my student loans. Due to the government pause on student aid, my application has been in processing limbo.

Dear incoming interns: Remember that your attendings have been practicing medicine for years, while you're essentially getting a new job every 4 weeks. Know that your job is not to know everything. Your job is to show up, ask questions, & care deeply for your patients.

Today was the hardest day of residency for me. I left feeling so defeated. Please send tips on how y’all stay afloat despite the grueling hours and patient outcomes. #MedTwitter #pediatrics

I was 17 when I scrubbed into my first surgery at OHSU. 17 years and (literally) half a life later I’m overjoyed to share that I will be starting my first attending job where it all started as an Assistant Professor of Surgery focused on Bariatrics and Foregut @OHSUNews

A physician I know performed a complex surgery at a hospital. Health System billed: $78,000 Health System Paid: $40,000 Physician Reimbursement: $1,100 Health Systems take the lion’s share. Physicians take the hit. No physician wants to be employed. #healthcare

Dear attending, Please don’t interrupt me to “honey” me while I’m giving you report on a new consult. You didn’t “honey” my male counterpart an hour earlier for his consult. Sincerely, Resident

Entering the hospital not as a doctor but just as a friend / family member is such an eye opening experience.
