Words can’t describe how heartbreaking the passing of my coach, Daniel Naroditsky, is. Just a few days before the Grand Swiss tournament in Uzbekistan which took place a little more than a month ago, I asked him to coach and accompany me. Even though it was a last-minute request and he had to travel across the world to reach Samarkand, he booked his flight and figured everything out within hours. That’s who he was, always there, never hesitating to help. We spent an amazing half month together. I’ll always be grateful for those days and everything I learned from him. Danya was the most genuine person I have ever known. I’ll never forget our late night bullet matches over the past 10 years. he was the only person in the world who regularly beat me in those. Danya, your legacy lives on forever. I’m sure somewhere up there, you’re playing blitz and discussing history with the greats.

Wrapped up the #UzChessCup Masters with a win in the final round and wins in tie breaks. Tiebreaks were crazy indeed. Grateful for all the support that I have received so far. Onto my next challenge to Croatia.

The power of Team work! Parham Maghsoodloo had tears in his eyes after the final round of Freestyle Chess at the Grenke Open in Karlsruhe. The reason: he botched up a winning position against Leinier Dominguez in the final round and missed his chance of finishing 2nd behind Magnus Carlsen. More than the 2nd place, what mattered a lot to Parham was the ticket to Las Vegas! He would have qualified to be a part of the Freestyle-Chess Grand Slam tour that will happen later in the year in Las Vegas and play against the best in the business. Parham was heartbroken, as now he was tied on 7.0/9 with several other players! However, as luck would have it, the final standings came out and thanks to superior tiebreaks, Parham did finish second, taking home 30,000 Euros and also a spot in the Las Vegas Grand Slam tour! The tears were wiped off, the usual exuberant joy was back on Parham's face. Parham has had a difficult last few months. From being as high as 2742 just a year and a half ago, the Iranian GM has fallen down to 2684 Elo. But he picked up pace in the last few days, winning the Reykjavik Open and getting back into 2700 Elo band! And now this spot in Las Vegas! As we interviewed Parham, he made it a point to express his deepest gratitude to his wife Sanaz Esmaili. She has been a rock solid supporter of Parham through all his ups and downs! She was always by his side and was beaming with pride and joy! It's these wonderful bonds of love that make the chess world so beautiful! A huge congratulations to both Parham and Sanaz for this massive achievement! Photo: Sagar Shah #chess #chessbaseindia #parhammaghsoodloo

Unfortunately, Ian Nepomniachtchi @lachesisq had to withdraw from our tournament. Ian will be replaced by Chess Olympiad gold medalist Vaishali R @chessvaishali 👏 As a result of this change, we have updated the pairings. The current tournament bracket can be found below:

At the last minute we received information that Jan-Krzysztof Duda had withdrawn from the tournament. We would like to thank Parham Maghsoodloo (@PMaghsoodloo), who agreed to replace him. In the first round, Parham will face Raunak Sadhwani We're happy we were able to replaced so many players on such short time notice. The tournament starts in 3 days, we can't wait for it!

Expert handling of the clock by @PMaghsoodloo - he keeps putting pressure on the board and keeps his time lead. Peter Svidler runs out of time trying to defend an unpleasant position, and Parham scores another 4 points! The @GangesGMs defeat Mumba Masters by 12-4. #TechMGCL

@peterdoggers The arbiter asked your position is losing? And he said “yeah”,what’s wrong with that?

Surprised that there's doubt whether Dardha accepted a draw and if the claim should have been taken seriously. Nihal's claim is an intrinsic draw offer. The arbiter logically first asks if Dardha agrees to a draw before taking action. I hear a "yeah."
