Whisper Large-v3:  New champion for the Open ASR leaderboard! 👑 We evaluated the latest Whisper checkpoint on a series of datasets and found it the most performant! Here are a couple of quick takeaways from running these evaluations: 1. The best performance for Whisper checkpoints is obtained when the language/ task is set explicitly. i.e. it's inbuilt. Language Identification can be a hit or miss, especially on accented audio. 2. Compared to the previous version, large-v3's performance has degraded slightly on the VoxPopuli test set. On all other datasets, it became considerably better. The bottom line is that Whisper large-v3 gives better downstream performance for the same inference memory/ time costs. 🔥 P.S. We re-ran out Whisper-large-v2 and distil-whisper evals with explicit language and task. This resulted in a WER boost for them, too (that's why they have moved up in the leaderboard! That's it! 🤗
