My very positive review of Vincent Brown, Tacky's Revolt, in the New West Indian Guide concludes: This well-written, beautifully illustrated, and incredibly well-researched book points the way toward ... the future study of slave revolts and resistance.

~43 million Americans on SNAP will get more $$ for food.
Please tell needy college students they are also eligible to apply now for this program.

This is the best legislative news on the climate change front in over a decade. It calls for a rare celebration. Massive props to the lawmakers who got these provisions — and the $35 billion for wind, solar, and other clean power sources — into this bill!

A media scooplet from me for @CJR: Rep. @tedlieu is working on legislation aimed at reviving the Federal Writers' Project—a 1930s New Deal program that put unemployed journalists and authors to work documenting America on the public dime. /1

Martial law has been imposed nearly a dozen times to restore order after race rioting and mob lynchings .... There was the anti-Chinese riots in Seattle in 1886, the Longview race riot during the “Red Summer” of 1919 and the Tulsa race massacre in 1921.
